4th best school in Texas is still more attractive than UK for football purposes.

 

Add in Nebraska and Oklahoma and it's probably 6th best football school in Texas, and that might be putting it high. Everyone agrees that Texas Tech is a dead in place for coaches. It could even be 7th Oklahoma State with their lavish facilities might be able to recruit Texas better than Tech can.

Also, with TCU joining the Big 12 Tech will likely be behind them as well if they weren't already, and for the average Texas players Tech most compete with half of division one that comes to Florida, Texas, and California looking for players.

At some point UK has to be just as competitive, they have a nice size stadium, great fan support, and an indoor practice facility, plus the exposure that comes from playing in the SEC. I have no guarantee what Leach would do but to say he couldn't win at UK and did nothing with a program much much better than UK is just ridiculous and causes you to lose all credibility in a football discussion. Texas and Oklahoma are both really good schools with A&m and OK State being average and Baylor being terrible most years. Sounds a lot like the SEC most years if you ask me Florida and Georgia are pretty good, Tennessee and South Carolina are average, and Vandy is terrible most years. Texas Tech at the time was in EXACTLY the same situation as UK is most of the time.

That's supposedly why Archie told them know. Rumor is our Chancellor got a call from ESPN that let us know we will be on at 11:30 SEC Network every week with Leach and that if we are 6-6 with all the SEC bowl slots filled we can expect to be left at home come bowl selection time.

The best quote I heard about Leach/UK is that Leach was at UK when UK was cheating and UK still lost. Why would UK want him now?

 

 

I, like others, am glad Leach got a job not at UK. Just not a fan. I'd like to see them aim higher. Or at least try to aim higher when the job will be available in the next year or two.

Off the top of my head....I'm really not good with the names of coaches I think are good so I'll say.....Terry Bowden, Boise State's coach, TCU's coach, Clemson's coach for starters.

Better conference, better pay, better competition. Winning in the SEC brings about a much better profile for all three of those coaches. Boise will never play for a BCS title. He'd now have better resources to win like that in the SEC and he'd have a better shot at winning a BCS title in the SEC also. I definitely understand your point. I am just saying I'd rather they go after one of those coaches hard than settle for Mike Leach. I think that is the problem with UK football. They always seem to settle instead of going for a homerun. I want to see the homerun. Who that homerun is? I don't know. I feel it isn't Mike Leach.

TCU is now in a BCS league. Clemson has had a better program than Kentucky for three decades or more. Boise State has a much higher national profile than Kentucky. I see little reason that any of those guys would give Kentucky serious consideration.

Maybe one of them loves to sip bourbon and play the ponies?

I think UK would be better off to find a young up and comer from a sub-division team or the coordinator ranks. Just don’t see the likes of Meyer, Saban, or other big name coach taking the job.
