Between the options given I'd get a Mac Book. An iPad would be pretty useless for school and the same arguments against the Mac Air still exist.

I thought iPads were supposed to be good for reading textbooks and would have various apps that would be useful. No?

iPad should be more than enough. If she gets an IPad is she getting the wifi or 3g

As BM and Clyde stated, most students need access to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. The iPad doesn't have these features. Yes, it can be a useful tool for school as well, but only in addition to a laptop of some kind.

As a solo device, I'd consider the iPad virtually useless for school. There is too much that 99% of students need to do that an iPad won't allow. A laptop should be step 1...

So if you're just going to use it for eBooks, you'd be better off getting a Kindle or something? If you have a home PC, I guess you really don't need a laptop or an iPad. You ust need to get an eBook reader.

You'd save yourself some money. A laptop is very nice to have as a student since you can be a lot more portable where you do your schoolwork. I wouldn't go back to school without one.

Good idea. :thumb: I've got an old IBM ThinkPad that I take on vacations -- mostly just to get on BGP.

owner of an iPad and a macbook (not a pro, but wife's is) if the iPad has apps to help with school maybe, but if she does a lot of writing/microsoft office i'd say the macbook pro.

 

I got my iPad as a xmas gift and knowing what i know i wouldn't recommend anyone buy it as a main computing source. if all its for is games/surfing the web/facebook go for it. if you need it for more practical purposes go with the pro.

 

i have had mine for 3 years and had 0 problems! im using it at work while i wait for my painfully slow pc to do whatever the heck its doing!
