November 17, 201114 yr "When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing." Keep those donations flowing, no matter the cost to us taxpayers.
November 17, 201114 yr Did anyone read the actual quote and not just what was picked out and shown in the link? The POTUS is referring to Congress. Individual Americans do not go out and recruit businesses to America. Thank you. So are you saying that a more appropriate thread title would be "Obama Calls Congress Lazy"? Some of us here could make that happen. But I think it will stand the way it ws originally posted.
November 17, 201114 yr The best leaders somehow get two opponents to agree on what they agree on. Obama is NOT a good leader. I give him credit on getting bin Laden. He has been a dismal failure in getting congress to do anything. Much worse than Clinton, and worse than Bush in that regard too.
November 17, 201114 yr He called America lazy in trying to attract jobs from overseas. And you think he is wrong, why? So who is he blaming...private industry or the government? Jobs are going to low cost countries because if one is running a large multinational manufacturing business you have to be cost competitive. The actionable item is to evaluate what factors make the US a high cost country...benefits, taxes, wage rates, other regulations, for example and deal with those issues. Also, the US is soft on enforcement of trade policies...ie. price dumping from other countries which has unfairly set the table in some industries for foreign-owned businesses.

I will agree with your assertion that a leader needs to bring opponents together. However, this Congress has taken partisanship to a new level and did so from the get-go. I'm far from a Congressional historian but I'd bet we've not seen it at this level before.
November 17, 201114 yr So who is he blaming...private industry or the government? . It was obvious to many.

The President must lead though and I really believe he talks in codes and business has been on to him from the beginning. It is hard to make friends when you go right after your opponent from the get go. We have seen this from both parties-governors in wisconsin and Ohio feeling the sting too. We need a change at the top.
