12th Region surprises?

Featured Replies

Are there any teams in the 12th region this year that you think can sneak up on the higher ranked teams? I personally think that Mercer County and Garrard County will surprise a lot of people. Garrard, being very young has some kids that can flat out play. Mercer is going to get up and down the court well. Thoughts?

Garrard will surprise those who think they are an easy win. They will compete night in and night out and make everyone they play work really hard for the win.

Mercer won't. They won't finish higher than 2nd in their district and I could see them losing to Burgin this year. Simply too young and not enough experience on the floor this winter. They will not be a team capable of playing a physical game either.

Danville may surprise. They'll be another team to keep an eye on. Football is over and while their core returning players are a month behind due to football it'll be interesting to see how they progress under a new coach.

Anybody know anything about Casey County, Rockcastle County, Monticello, etc?

Burgin is senior laden. It'll be interesting to see how they play in what is rumored to be Coach Irvine's last season. They'll beat Mercer at home this year.

Of the teams that were not ranked by CatsPause, I think Somerset and Garrard Co. are the most likely to suprise one or more of the top 10 teams. Both of these teams are young and by seasons end one or both could be in the top 10. Ryan Dishman for Somerset, Clayton Ray and Austin Sebastian for Garrard Co. all played AAU this past spring on the same team. Very talented kids in the class of 2014.

Casey lost a few to graduation. They will be a decent size team but will lack guard play. They also have a new coach. I don't expect too much from Casey this year, but you never know.

Rockcastle will be ok this year. I think they only lost one or two players to graduation so they return the core of last years team. That team made it to region last year and gave Southwestern a good first round game.

Monticello will not be very strong again this year.

Don Irvine will get the absolute max out of those kids,as he always does.

Garrard is very young, but their overall talent and speed will put them in a lot of games this year, that people wouldn't have thought they would be in. Just keep an eye on them.

If the rumor is true about Irvine retiring, then I am sure that his players will give it all they have and have him go out on a good note. Any possible candidates that will succeed Irvine at Burgin?

We are. I think everyone is expecting them to be much improved.

That's quite a bit of size. Any more teams that anyone knows of that can tower over some teams this year?

I was told the other day that Robert Jones may have interest in the Burgin job next year.

Any connection to the program? Who ever takes over is going to have a rebuilding year.

Coach Jones is currently the coach at McCreary Central. I have been told he is looking for a new gig, ( although I cant verify that at this date) and he and the current coach there are big buddies. Was told he would have free reign to run everything like he wants without any interference.
