There is a non-government shovel ready jobs program all set to go, providing jobs and less dependence on foreign oil.

The oil companies are ready to build a pipeline to help provide jobs and oil for us. Yet it seems that Obama wants to wait

until after the election, if reelected, to make a decision. Does this mean he might approve it, but does not want to hack off his base, because saying no to the pipeline now would make his base happy.

 

And for those who say this will hurt the environment, please remember we already have 1000's of miles of pipelines and we have not destroyed the world. That includes the Alaskan Pipeline where the wildlife has actually thrived since it was completed.

Maybe this non-government jobs program might create jobs that will help to break the cycle of poverty, at least for those who want to work that hard.

The GOP has offered up 15 bills that would create jobs on projects that are ready to start right away but Obama and the Dems. rejected them all... If they are not government or union jobs we will get no approval from the left..

Uh this Pipeline would be a Union Job but Union or not it is much needed . It should be built ASAP .

Like a lot of projects this one also was thwarted by NIMBYs.

You must admit that a "mistake" in the days of Boone, Kenton, and others had a microscopic impact on people as compared to a "mistake" today.

 

We do need to get this oil issue figured out but we have to do it the right way.

There is some dispute as to how many jobs will be created out of this. It's probably not as high as the 10k to 15k thrown around.

 

The report saying that 18k union jobs would be produced was produced by a company that was funded by the owner of the pipeline.

As you look a little further into this it's also not a given that we will reduce our dependence on foreign oil. A report says that crude oil imports from Africa and the Middle East will not be impacted with or without this pipeline. The oil in the Keystone pipeline will not even be stored in the US . It will be exported. Six companies have already contracted for 75% of the oil. Five of those are foreign and the US company's, Valero, business model centers around exporting.

One of the main movers that asked for further review of the project was the Republican governor of Nebraska. This is not a strictly partisan issue. I don't know enough about the specifics of the project to know if the delay is warranted, but if the politicians on both sides are asking for more info, it is best to get the info. I'm not part of the crowd that says that if Obama says wait, it must be a bad project and I'm also not part of the crowd that says that if Obama delays the project it means it is something we should start immediately.

What I was speaking of was the can do attitude of those pioneers. With only axes and backbone they carved out trails westward. Then later those who made it all the way to the Pacific in nothing more than covered wagons shows what lengths they would go to have a better life. Somehow I see that lacking in a portion of our population today. And that includes those college students who want their loans forgiven.

 

For close to 2 generations people have been fed the idea that government is the answer. The answer is "rugged individualism" with a partnership of our government. A government that provides a playing surface that allows individuals to achieve to the level of the abilities they have. That was the essence of Teddy Roosevelt's "Square Deal" , but it did not guarantee success or provide for taking from those who did achieve and give it to those who did not.
