In the St.X/Nelson thread I heard that a new school was going to open in Nelson County next year and that new school and NCHS would neither be a 6A school. What is this going to do the the district alignment for 6A since Nelson is in the only 3 team district in 6A?

Seems likely that some L'ville teams will have to shift south.

I assume that the #5 seed in northern Kentucky will be seeded as the #3 team in that district.

 

McCracken County consolidates in 2012 and I assume that either Muhlenberg County or Daviess County will move to District 2.

That still won't fix the District 6 problem. I can't wait for the next round of Mapquest mileage measurements showing that School A has to travel a total of a half-mile more than School B, and therefore should stay in D6.

Also, I've been told most of NC's roster will be intact following the split.

 

TNHS will pull from the Boston and New Haven area, and neither of those schools has its own MS team. They have, however, been playing as a combined Southwest Nelson team for the past few years. NC figures to drop to 4A if my numbers are correct, which would land them in District 5 with the likes of Marion, Boyle, Mercer, LexCath and Taylor.

 

While they'd be in a smaller classification (and, of course, stay far away from playoff matchups with the St. Xs and Trinitys of the world), I don't know that Boyle and LexCath every year would be preferable to CH and Meade.

 

I do think NC will be a lot better next year, though, although many will say it's just because of dropping in class, and those many would not be totally correct. Cards only had three returning starters this year, so they'll be very experienced next year and figure to improve by default.

This is just a thought, but since the KHSAA has had other schools play-up after a split in the past, would it be out of bounds to think that just for next season that both of the new schools will still be in 6A and redistricting would occur after that?

They could probably do that with NC, but not TNHS, as TNHS will only be grades 9-11 the first year. I don't even know for sure they'll be playing varsity right out of the gate, but from what I hear that's the goal.

 

The mascot will be the Generals. I'll have to get back to you on the colors.

Nelson Co has to stay in 6A next season due to they have to wait until the next realignment takes place. As far as TNHS from what I understand they will be JV only due to the fact schools just signed new 2 year contracts and it would be difficult for them to pick up games and they will have no seniors.

Actually, it will have quite the opposite effect. Nelson County High School, even after the split, will still draw from the heart of the talent pool areas that they have in the past. So, they'll have the same talent, yet drop two, maybe even three classes. The Nelson County communities of New Haven and Boston (which will be in the Thomas Nelson district) typically haven't churned out many football players over the years.

Just as I have heard as well. Nelson County High School will be the school considerably better. As others have pointed out, though, getting thrown into a district with Boyle County, LexCath, Mercer County, Marion and Taylor will be a tougher road for two years more than Central Hardin and Meade County, if nothing more than the fact that , Nelson County will be in a very competetive 6 team district w/ no guaranteed playoff spot as they currently have in 6A.

What talent? They had a few good teams in the 90's. I just don't see them competing with the likes of Boyle, Lexcath. Sure they'll compete with Marion and Taylor, but most others do too. This will do nothing for athletics in Nelson County IMO. The superintendent is not very supportive of athletics, as evidenced by the drastic demise of his former tenure at Dunbar. Just my opinion.

In 2010, they beat Warren Central and held a 13-1 John Hardin to their low point total of the year (21-0 John). Maybe the talent that allowed them to do as well as they did in those games? In 2009, they finished 6-6. The biggest thing that has hurt Nelson County, IMO, is the coaching carousel they've had the past 10+ years. They've had 5 coaches since 2000, alone. I don't care who you are or what class you're playing, that's rough on any program, let alone one that is playing in our biggest class.

Trey White is one of the most talented WRs in the state. If he played on a good team we would be wondering what DI school he'd be playing for. This year was a big down year for them, but the school is not without talent. Their current QB will play somewhere as well. You still need a supporting cast.

 

You're in the E'town area, from what I gather. White is as good if not better than E'town's Morgan, and is definitely a superior athlete. He has a 40-inch vertical.
