Actually, it will have quite the opposite effect. Nelson County High School, even after the split, will still draw from the heart of the talent pool areas that they have in the past. So, they'll have the same talent, yet drop two, maybe even three classes. The Nelson County communities of New Haven and Boston (which will be in the Thomas Nelson district) typically haven't churned out many football players over the years.

That's the way I understand it.

Nelson Co has to stay in 6A next season due to they have to wait until the next realignment takes place. As far as TNHS from what I understand they will be JV only due to the fact schools just signed new 2 year contracts and it would be difficult for them to pick up games and they will have no seniors.

 

That's not what I've been told. I'm under the impression that it's going to be similar to what happened in Shelby Co. and they will be allowed to drop down.

This is just a thought, but since the KHSAA has had other schools play-up after a split in the past, would it be out of bounds to think that just for next season that both of the new schools will still be in 6A and redistricting would occur after that?

 

On another note, what will be the mascot and colors of the new school? Just curious.

Is it based on whether or not the other school offers football? Greenwood continued in 6A for a year after South Warren opened, but South Warren didn't play a varsity schedule and so the impact may have lessened.

They may have settled on those colors just to have a contrast to all the other local schools (and Washington Co.).

Good call. And who says message boards aren't educational? I would say that is a huge reason they settled on those colors, plus the whole "general" "patriot" "commander" and anything patriotic really is eaten up with the whole Red, White and Blue scheme (as it should be).

 

It's not overly used, you're right. Warren Central used to be, but they have gone to more of a Navy/White look in recent years. I think South Warren might have some kind of Navy/gray color scheme, but outside of them, I can't really think of a school who has Navy/Gray as their base colors.
