Only been out once. Planned on going this weekend but came down with a stomach bug on Friday. Didn't fully recover until last night.

I would love to say it was a 40yd shot, but it was 10yds off a branch......Fox Squirrel too which is almost the size of a real fox if you've ever seen one..

Saturday afternoon I was sitting on the ground behind some tall grass when a buck walked past me at 16 1/2 yards. I put my scope on his shoulder and pulled the trigger. He jumped and ran to my right into the woods, though a ditch and into a corn field behind me. I walked over to where he was standing when I shot and no blood. I started walking down the trail he ran and no blood. Nothing on the banks of the ditch, and nothing on the trail where he came out of the ditch. There was about 10 yards of woods on the other side of the ditch before he hit the corn field no blood there either. Got to the corn field where he came out and still no blood. At this point I was about 40-50 yards from where I shot him and not a drop of blood. I started walking up and down the edge of the woods in the corn field where I thought he went, nothing. I scanned out in the corn field with my binos and didn't see him. After about an hour of walking back and forth looking for some sign that I hit him I convinced myself I missed. But how the hell do you miss from 16 1/2 yards with a rifle. After replaying it in my mind all Saturday night I just knew there was no way I could have missed from that close even if I pulled the shot. But I also though there was no way in hell I could have hit him from that close with a 30-06 and there be no blood. I got up Sunday morning and headed back to the where I shot him with 2 guys I hunt with. One of them hunted that morning in a bean field that overlooks the corn field where my buck ran. He said he scanned the entire area while he was hunting and didn't see anything. Mind you where he was set up is probably 100ft elevation above the ditch I was hunting. Anyway, we get there and start grid searching the woods where I thought he went. Just when we were about to give up I just happened to look out in the corn field and see the coat of a deer shining in the sun light. When he hit the corn field he ran about 50 yards out in it and piled up. He was laying on his belly so you couldn't see the white. He blended in perfect. Again, zero blood from the woods to where he was laying. I hit him right in the shoulder and bullet did not exit opposite shoulder. This deer was shot at 16 1/2 yards with a 30-06 and left zero blood trail. Definitely learned a lesson to never give up if you think you made a good shot.

I hit one with my car Friday....I don't think that's luck, though. :lol: If anybody want's to find it, it ran off into the woods. Hwy 150, somewhere between Hardinsburg, IN and Paoli.

First time in a long time I was in the woods and did not see a single deer. Except for the 8 pointer my buddy shot that I had to help drag out! :madman:
