I already started with the fact that corporations overwhelmingly support the GOP v. Democrats. I'm kind of surprised that this is something you would contest. If it wasn't true, why then is the GOP the party of big business and the obvious choice for those in the private sector? But if you think it is otherwise, why don't you supply that data to refute my suggestions? It is public record, after all.

 

Unions are a dying breed, and therefore a lame suggestion as a counter. Their influence on American politics is shrinking by the day thanks to the union-busting tactics of the GOP.

 

If big corporations didn't overwhelmingly support the GOP, Mitch wouldn't have pushed so hard for stripping away the corporate campaign donations limitations, since he's more concerned about the welfare of the GOP than the betterment of the USA.

 

Better check your facts Jim. There are just as many Karl Rove's on the democrat's side as there are on the GOP. As to big business I suggest you do some research. Also, what about the unions? Very true. Seeing how things operate from a national to a local perspective I look forward to becoming more involved in my union as an officer. I feel like I could be in for a rude awakening once I get to the point of rubbing elbows with national officers. I love my local union. National.....ehhhh.........you see......uhhhhhhh.......yeah. Should be interesting when I get to that point one day in my future.

As corporation 'mature' and the markets they serve no longer have the growth and competitors catch up to the innovators who lead the market there is only one way to sustain profits - reduced cost. And the functions that do help corporations do that went not only to outsourcing, which has been around for decades, but adding offshoring for the cheaper labor. It is the cheap telecommunications and bandwidth that has enabled that in the last 5-8 years.

 

The only business leader I see being brazenly 'pro-American' is Trump. He is sensitized to it. I remember him recently saying he is willing to pay more for office furniture made in the USA to fill his buildings. After Trump...I am just not sure.

 

The spreadsheets may indicate it the right financial decision. And few executives can argue with a spreadsheet. So unless they really have sense of overall responsibility to their immediate or country-wide community they go with what the spreadsheet and $500 an hour consultant is telling them.

 

I have seen corporations, or rather executives in corporations, try to do the right thing. I have seen the impact on them personally after the decision. Many resign afterwards seeing the impact first hand. The human individuals who make these decisions do no do so without a conscience. But they have little support to go against the bottom line. And they usually have a $500 an hour consulting firm in their face telling them if they do not make this 'tough decision' that they will fall behind their competitors - who are also doing all this offshoring. I call it 'the race to the bottom.'
