Sitting here eating my carryout from the new Smashburger in Highland Heights.

 

Ordered a rather plain bacon/swiss 1/3rd pound burger on Multi-grain

which is very tasty, but not as well done as I prefer. That's my fault and from now on will specify Well Done! That's obviously a personal choice as are the fried pickles which are WAAAAAYYYY too salty for my taste, but others may like them that way. The thing that will definitely bring me back is the Wedge salad. A quarter head of fresh lettuce with blue cheese crumbles, bacon, and blue cheese dressing - outstanding. And of course, I couldn't resist the Hagen Daaz milk shake which I'm saving for dessert (helps me maintain my figure) but have sampled - Very Good.

 

Overall, I give them passing grades, but my primary choice for a burger remains (and probably always will) - Barleycorns!

Drove by the Highland Heights location on our way to the Aronoff Center last night; just a little before 7. It looked like there were 10 or 12 people there but I admit to not having the best view. Probably more folks in Chipotle than Smashburger.

How did you end up out there on the way to the Aranoff? Did you come up 27? Btw, did you see Wicked?

Quickest way from Maysville is to go up the AA but instead of going all the way to Wilder (that exit is ALWAYS a mess); just get off on 27 and go through Cold Spring/Highland Heights, then pick up 275. It's always just a little shorter and a little faster.

 

Yes; we saw Wicked. Belated 21st birthday present for daughter was tickets for us (mom and dad), her and two of her friends. The three of us had seen it a while back in Louisville and it's probably one of our top two Broadway musicals. What was really cool was watching the reaction of her girlfriends - they were amazed.

I saw it a couple weeks ago. It was my first experience with Broadway theater, and it was awesome!! We're going to West Side Story and Les Mis. in the spring -- can't wait.

Hey, better late than never! I'm glad you enjoyed it; the two leads were fantastic. We try to go to one show a year at the least.

 

I saw West Side Story in the 60s with my parents (I'm an old guy). You will really like the dancing in that one.

 

We saw Les Mis about 5 years ago at the Aronoff and it was incredible. Mason County High School put it on in 2007 and it was in my unbiased opinion (even though mcdaughter was one of the leads; my parents came up from Florida and we watched all three shows) the best one they've ever done, and they have a history in that regard. Even took it on the road to Raceland High School.

If I can digress just one more time, before returning to smashing burgers:

 

We had Mariand Torres standing in for the part of Elphaba, but she was great. Also had a stand-in for Boq. Btw, I love how they made little references to other shows -- like the balcony speech by Glinda. Also, at the very beginning when the crowd was singing, I said, "It looks like these Munchkins all just came over from Les Mis." :lol:

I'd love to see Wicked. Missed it when it came to Louisville but hopefully will get the chance at some point.
