To me that is totally different. Obviously we disagree on the subject. If you're a HC & I'm ever a HC, maybe we'll play and you can on-side kick until the scoreboard blows up.

When Cats and Doyle hook up as head coaches(a scenario that is possible) I want to be there. No doubt. Matter of fact...I want free reign on both sidelines.

Sports evolve. My guess is you had been this age when the West Coast offense started you would have been saying "it's cheating the game when you don't run it all the time." "I'd rather lose running all the time or throwing the deep pass instead of winning by taking advantage of what the defense gives you."

Guys I've never been a fan of the whole "we've got to outscore people" philosophy in football. Its true because you have to score to win. But I take too much pride in defense to want to onside kick everytime. If a team is ahead 29-0 a still onside kicking in a HS football game I have a problem. If a team is ahead by a couple of scores & onside kicks I have a problem with that philosophy. Maybe its "smart football" but it will never be real football to me. If not playing defense is a team strength I see that as a sign of weakness. Play great defense, be productive on offense, have very good special teams. That is a complete football team to me. Whatever the Arky coach is doing is gutless to me, #3 team in the state shouldn't have to onside kick every time IMO. Personally I'll never agree with that philosophy, it is fine if you do, obviously the people of that fanbase love it. Personally, its a pathetic philosophy & that has to be an acceptable answer to you guys. I'm done defending it.

I don't agree with keeping it up 29-0, but if it means getting up on your opponent 29-0 out of the gates, then so be. I guess my original post really sums up how I feel, because I made little tweaks to the Arkansas head coaches philosophy. All for using it, but make changes accordingly.

 

Ever look at it from this perspective, both of us being defensive fans, but lets say you are playing a team that offensively, far and away much better than your defensive personell (even though your bunch might be as technically sound as can be, play with great effort and motor); yet, there is night and day difference. But, defensively, yeah, they are athletic, but not really sound at all (a HS version of Hawai'i a couple years back). However, the one thing you feel like you have an upper hand in is special teams, specifically your kickoff team and the ability to recover onside kicks vs. their below average KO Return team. If you are onside kicking, and getting them (obviously you are scoring or you wouldnt be continuously pulling onsides) do you not keep doing this vs. that overly talented, offensive juggernaut across the field from you until you know that that game is out of reach?

 

I agree with onside kicking when the game is clearly out of reach as being gutless, though. 100%, whole heartedly agree as well as going for 2 when the game is out of reach (granted, it's not worth sending your kids out to attempt a PAT when you never practice it, either).

Deal! The Rebs going to knock out the boys from Inianapolis this week? Harlan County took it to one of the Morrisstown, TN schools in week 0, Trinity has been on their run over TN and OH schools out of the gates, Lou. Central took it to Goodpasture out of TN, etc. It's been a good early start to the season for our KY boys vs. out of state competition, I got a feeling the Rebel nation is going to keep that trend up this week!

Why do i keep hearing its cheating the game or its not real football? It is football, and its legal, thats why they are allowed to do it, the game changes, and his method has his team #3 in (REAL) Football in arkansas, and winning by any legal means possible is what i call real football, and considering his team is ranked #3 that also means they dont lose very ofter, so i dont believe defense is their weakness? Also this just happend to be a game where they got lucky enough to go up 29-0, what about the games when the other team recoverd? the #3 ranking still looks to me like their defense took care of buisness :thumb:
