I've always hated driving over that bridge, but preferred it over the Kennedy, which is now the route I'll have to take.

 

We've drug our feet here in Louisville over the building of 1 (or 2) new bridges, and now we may be down to one bridge for months! It'll take weeks just to determine the extent of the safety issues of the SM. No telling how long to fix it...meanwhile the Kennedy will be handling pretty much the whole load.

 

I'm looking for alternate routes to work now, as I have to get across the river somehow. I've even been looking at going to Brandenburg to cross at Corydon.

I already leave for work by 6am evey morning. I'm hoping traffic isn't too bad and I can get across the Kennedy post haste. Tomorrow's the day I'll find out.

How are we degenerate horse players and gamblers supposed to get from the Horseshoe Casino to Churchill Downs and back in a timely manner???

 

Maybe we ought to consider Mountaineer Park this fall for our annual weeklong gambling/cavorting outing!

I always go to the boat after the track. Though I couldn't begin to tell you how to get there now.

I have to go to Georgetown on Tuesday. Thinking about going through E'town. I usually have to come to Louisville once or twice per week. I was not happy when I heard about the closure. I will definitely start mapping different options.

I heard the bridge @ Brandenburg is under construction. Now I'm thinking of driving to the airport area to access I-65 to take it north through downtown to get across the Kennedy. Ugh...this is just about miserable. I'm hoping that since I leave for work so early, I'll avoid the worst of any backups.

Can't imagine the Horseshoe is doing handstands over this one--It will really make getting there from downtown difficult. Maybe some enterprising businessman will open a ferry across the river down there??

As much as I hate to say it and I really wasn't to keen on the idea to begin with, this incident might actually end up being the catalyst that ends up making tolls a viable option just to make sure we can pay for the bridges in a timely manner. If this doesn't spur people to shut River Fields up, then nothing will.

So, I left for work early, picking up I-65N @ Muhammad Ali this morning. Not too bad going north, but I was on the road by 5:45a. I-65S was backed up as far as I could see, definitely beyond the 265 interchange. 265 was backed up, and when I got back to 64W it was backed up all the way to Lanesville. So, I don't think my morning communte will be too bad. But I'm concerned about my evening commute. The two factors in my favor are that I am traveling opposite the rush hour traffic, and that I come through earlier than it begins and later than it usually ends. I've got a map for the route from Corydon to Brandenburg, and if I get to that point and I hear 64W is backed up ridiculously, I'll try that route tonight. If that doesn't work out, there's always the Tell City option, but that's way out of my way. If that becomes a necessity, I may go live with my sister in Hudson until this all gets sorted out. :lol:

I will go ahead tell you that I65 south in the afternoon stays backed up. Now noramlly it's the far right lane of the bridge if you are exiting to 64E but with the added load I would expect the whole thing to be a cluster. I would think seriously about going through Brandendburg.

If I decided to go the 65S route, I'm not even going to attempt to get off onto 64. If I got to either Jefferson St or St. Catherine, I can get through Old Louisville/Smoketown to get home. Worst case scenario I wind up getting off at Arthur St, at which point I'll just take Eastern Parkway. I'm going to try this today. If it doesn't go well, then I'm trying Brandenburg tomorrow.
