November 8, 201114 yr Ouch Yet he thought I was being bias thinking they would do well. When really he was the one letting his bias of hating Mike Brown get in the way of seeing that there really was talent on the team. It just depended on how Andy Dalton would do as I said, and well obviously Dalton has done very well.
November 9, 201114 yr Author The odds are not in favor of a team starting a rookie QB with a rookie #1 WR in a significantly abbreviated off-season going 6-2 to start the season. Yet, here we are. The Bengals have defied logic in that regard. I think most people (at least I know I did), believed the Bengals had some good young talent.

The Bengals have defied logic in that regard. I think most people (at least I know I did), believed the Bengals had some good young talent. Then where were you backing me up when I made my statement about the Bengals? As I said before the year the Bengals had good young talent, the defense showed signs at the end of the year that they would be good with the youth on the D-line and then Rey moving to the middle. On offense we had plenty of playmakers, especially when adding Green to the mix. Then when you added the easy early schedule to the mix, it was not hard to see that the team could start really well depending on Dalton. However most people chose to ignore that, or just didn't want to get blasted for saying it like I did. I am hoping they do even better than the record I said, because I based my 8-8 on Dalton just doing average. I didn't think that he would do as well as he had He was the only real big question more because you never know how a rookie will do. So hopefully he keeps it up, playoffs are a real possibility. As I said before when a young team has confidence, anything is possible.
November 9, 201114 yr I will add that there is one other person on here that thought the Bengals could do well too, and that is The Guru. Me and him talked before the year and he also thought they had a chance to do well.:thumb:
November 9, 201114 yr Come on Ukmustangfan still no reply? You were quick at replying to me when I made my prediction about the Bengals. Your quick about replying about anything about Palmer. However you can't reply when you are wrong? I mean if I do end up being wrong about Palmer and he keeps throwing interceptions like this the rest of the year, then I promise I will at least show up and say I was wrong and you were right! So at least you can do is show up in this thread.
November 9, 201114 yr ^Someone has a weird obsession with me I think. The Bengals are better than I thought. Just because they happen to be better than expected, doesn't mean your prediction wasn't made with bias though. And I'm not biased against Mike Brown in any way, shape, or form like you keep saying. I've said numerous times on here that MB is a great businessman. That the fans are stupid for continuing to support the Bengals all the while complaining about him not trying to win. He's trying to make money, simple as that.

He's trying to make money, simple as that. I don't have an obsession with you. I just know if the Bengals had sucked like you thought, you probably would have already commented on this thread awhile back laughing how I was wrong. Now also please tell me how it was made with bias? Because the majority public opinion was that they were going to suck, that means my opinion has to be bias since I thought other wise. I mean I even stated reasons why I thought the Bengals were going to be better than what people thought. Just take a look again at post 8 and 15. The exact reasons for why I thought the Bengals could do well is exactly why they have done well. I talked about how their linebacking core was better, the defensive line was young and talented and could put pressure on the QB so that it should be better. On offense I talked about how there was a lot of young talent there at the skill positions. Then I talked about the early easy schedule. Then I also talked about how it could come down to Dalton. I said if he could at least do average then they could very easily get to 8 and 8. Dalton was the big question mark because no one ever knows how a rookie will do. He has been better than average so far, and if he can keep this up then they should definitely do better than 8 and 8. So please tell me once again how I was the one showing bias? Especially when I explained my reasoning before the season for why I thought the Bengals could do well. Most people showed their bias for hating Mike Brown and just not believing he could put a good team together. So that didn't allow you all to see that honestly what we had was not that bad at all. I mean for crying out loud most of you even thought the Browns would be better! WOW!

As I said before when a young team has confidence, anything is possible. My position has remained pretty consistent. I felt like Dalton had the potential to be the best QB of this draft, that AJ Green was a future stud, that Simpson was a solid #2, and Gresham a talented young TE. Basically, that they had all the pieces to be a very good offense in the future. On defense, I felt like they'd built a solid foundation, but they still have some areas that need to be addressed. I thought it was a mistake to let Joseph get away. To put it simply, I thought they were too young on offense and were a year or two away, and that still may be the case. The first half schedule was highly favorable, but the second half is considerably tougher with 2 games apiece against Baltimore and Pittsburgh and a game against the Texans. Dalton, as good as he has been for a rookie, eventually has to progress to the next level for the Bengals offense to reach its potential. But, all things considered, regardless of how they finish, the Bengals have done well, IMO, and have given reason for a lot of optimism going forward. Generally speaking, young rookie QB's are more likely to end up like Cam Newton in the W-L column. Dalton had the Bengals have defied the odds to date.
November 10, 201114 yr I agree 5W and when you add to that the extra draft choices the Bengals have the future is extremely optimistic.
November 10, 201114 yr ^Yeah, you're not biased FC. I have a better shot at making it in the NFL then the Bengals do at winning 8 games. Just out of curiosity ,Do you have a tryout set-up yet ? LOL
November 10, 201114 yr Bengals are likely to lose 5 within the division.I retract that statement!
November 10, 201114 yr Author I agree 5W and when you add to that the extra draft choices the Bengals have the future is extremely optimistic. Without a doubt. For all the criticism he's taken, some valid and some perhaps not, Mike Brown now has the Bengals in a position to be a perennial contender for several years if they get it right. There are always ifs for any team... Staying healthy is always there. But, beyond that, the two things that stand out to me is Dalton progressing (and Green as well, but the QB is more important) and making the draft picks count (would love to see them get some good linemen on both sides of the ball). The new spending rules will assure that the Bengals don't go cheap and spend comparable to everyone else. The Bengals are winning now with a limited offense. I'm excited to see what this team might do when Dalton has a full grasp of the playbook and they can really open things up.

I'm excited to see what this team might do when Dalton has a full grasp of the playbook and they can really open things up. They are in great position now! Just hopefully injuries or other things dont end up changing things. We were kind of in a similar position in 2005. We just had a great draft class, our rookies were big parts of the team and we made the playoffs. Then in 2006 everything changed, and basically lost that whole draft class. A class that looked like it was going to be a great one. Thurman never played again, Pollack and Tab Perry both have career ending injuries in week two. Henry started having all his suspensions. Not to mention Peko was a part of that draft. That draft was a great draft, and we only got to benefit one year from it. If that class worked out, we might have already been a team that always contended. It does not seem like we have to worry about off field problems with this draft class, so hopefully they stay healthy!
