I begrudgingly agree, though there is a part of me which still hopes a dog takes away his ability to throw another pass.

 

And my stance on his "potential" dog ownership will NEVER waver. There are actions you do in life which may deny you specific privileges forever.

 

Now, if we're discussing dog ownership, I'm inclined to agree with you in a knee-jerk sort of fashion. BUT, trying to be objective, I firmly believe it's possible for people to change, and that the possibility (not probability) that he could be a worthy dog owner exists.

 

But to the issue of his crime and his ability to earn a living after serving his sentence and fulfilling his committments is unwavering. One problem our justice and penal system creates is that after release, many who want to turn their lives around find precious little opportunity to do so. They're unhirable for many, if not most, jobs.

I know, just think of how much he might be making now had he killed people instead of dogs.

 

My guess is that he'd be paid the same, since he's getting paid for how he plays on the football field...not what he done off the field in the past.

I don't know when this great drop in production occurred for Vick last year, but I've looked for it a couple of times. Vick essentially played 12 games last year (he started Week 4 but only attempted 7 passes before injury). So, I split his season into the first 6 regular season games vs. the last 5 regular season games and the playoff loss to Green Bay.

 

In the first six, an average Vick game was 19/31 - 260 yards - 2 TD/0 Int (9 rushes, 60 yards, TD)

 

In the last six, the average Vick game was 22/36 - 284 yards - 2TD/1 Int (9 rushes, 56 yards, TD)

 

The full stats of each are:

First six: 1559 yards (62.5%), 11 TD, 0 Int (358 rush yards, 6.9 avg, 5 TD)

Last six: 1702 yards (61.3%), 11 TD, 7 Int (334 rush yards, 6.3 avg, 5 TD)

 

His completion percentage dropped by roughly a point and he finally threw some picks. The picks were going to happen at some point...Vick wasn't going to go a whole season without throwing any. The fact that the completion percentage remained relatively consistent is cause for optimism, IMO. Had it dropped significantly, then I might be concerned.

 

And, I think it is worth noting that Vick's insane 6 TD performance vs. the Redskins was included in the first six games. Take that game out and the completion percentages are about the same. The only thing that changed was he finally got picked.

 

Even with that, project his last six games over a full 16-game season and it would look something like this...

 

355/579 (61.3%), 4539 yards, 29 TD, 18 Int (141 rushes, 891 yards, 6.3 avg, 13 TD)

 

How many QB's production would you take over that?

 

Additionally, considering the strides Vick has made as a QB in two years with Philly, I don't think he's finished improving. It's unrealistic to expect any QB to play half a season without getting intercepted. I can live with a few TO's if he keeps producing everywhere else, and I don't see any evidence that that won't happen. Injury is the biggest concern I have with Mike Vick.

 

I think the contract is justified based on last year and a reasonable expectation that he can sustain the production and continue to improve as a QB.

He's served his sentence and continues to fulfill his obligations. Should the man be denied the opportunity to earn a living?

I hope you are right. He certainly earned his contract. The INT number alarms me and the fact he has durability issues. After that amazing hot streak I do not care what the numbers show, it was not the same Vick by the end of the season. He threw for about 300 yards in the playoff loss to Green Bay, but he was not very good that game.

 

I heard if he just receives his guaranteed money ($40 million), it will still not be enough to pay his creditors.

I don't completely disagree. He wasn't as good at the end. However, he was playing insanely good for the first 6 games or so, capped off by that amazing performance against the Redskins. I just don't think he was that bad down the stretch. The Packers were the best defense in the league last year...or at the least, they were playing better than anyone at that point. And, Vick and the Eagles gave them their toughest test in the post-season.

 

I think he'll improve with more time under Reid and running the offense. It sure would have helped to had another complete off-season.

You guys know where I stand as far as Vick goes. I took more heat than almost anyone on here on almost any topic when I made the claim a couple of years ago that Vick would return to be a top quarterback. Most people heckled and told me he wouldn't even start again, still I held strong and stood by my statement that Vick would once again return to the field and get significant play.

 

 

As a Vick fan it makes me happy to see all of this come full circle for him. I knew all along and tried to say all along that with the right attitude and work ethic Vick could still be great. I had always knew that he never really put full effort in his play. People told me that Vick couldn't come back because he was not a good passer and he wouldn't have his legs, or this and that, or blah, blah, blah. I always told people in response that Vick was the last one to practice and first to leave in ATL, and at that time didn't have much help (aging Warren Dunn/Peerless Price). Roddy White was almost a non factor when Vick was there, they drafted him to be the player he is now, but while Vick was there he was still maturing and not a high level wide out. Last year showed what a fully focused, fully dedicated Mike Vick could do weapons around him. It showcased what has IMO always been one of the best players in the league, a superstar talent. I am beyond happy to see him reach that level again (although it comes at the expense of playing for the Eagles). For all those who told me he wouldnt get back to starting again or told me he wasn't a good passer, well........ :lol:

 

Because seriously, some of the throws he made last year were insane!!! Guy has so much pop on all his throws and always has such a tight hard spiral. Last year he really showcased the ability to make uber tough throws and really had some of the best pass completions of any QB in the league last year. You add the running game to that and it is scary.

 

 

Just glad to see a dedicated, rejuvinated Mike Vick see some redemption.
