jack99
Someone commented in a related thread, "Scott Co considered one of best public 6 A schools playing Webster Co...Trinity and StX playing TN powers. I hope McKee never complains about the private schools." This is a matter of respect, not fear. With all due respect to Trinity and StX programs, public school coaches have an obligation to their players, families and other fans to schedule games that can be attended with minimum expense. There's almost always the home-away or away-home 2 year contract, and many public school families just don't have the disposable income to travel out of state for games. It would be disrespectful to the families to schedule otherwise.

I would imagine they weren't asking for Scott County to schedule out-of-state, but rather why McKee wouldn't schedule Trinity and St. Xavier, so they don't end up going out of state. Also, did that obligation to attend games at minimum expense not apply to the Webster County people? Because they had to travel 3 hours and 44 minutes according to Mapquest. Which is, incidentally, 1 hour longer than the drive Trinity made to Nashville.
Watusi
When Franklin County backed out on Belfry for the Pike County Bowl, Scott County was willing to play Belfry, but it couldn't be worked out fairly with Webster County. I don't know the details of Scott County's scheduling, but as I understand it they were interested in that upgrade in competition and it just didn't pan out. Of course that is not comparable to schedule X or T and I'm not suggesting it is.

It's 3.5 hours from Webster Co to Scott Co. That was probably one of the longest road trips of the week. Not sure your argument.

There are plenty of potential quality opponents within an hour's drive of Georgetown, both to the north and in the Louisville area. Scott County wanted an easy win and a home gate, plain and simple. jack99
Webster Co traveling? That was the previous Webster Co coach's decision to drive almost 4 hours, and hardly any of their fans made the trip, which seems to support my point. Interested in a home gate - Seriously, who isn't? Scott County has eight 6A teams on a ten game schedule, and it's my understanding that Webster was the only taker Scott Co had for week 2. Don't know if Trinity and StX were asked, but there are a lot of 6A teams that don't play them in the regular season. No one wants a game where your starters end up playing for only one quarter, and I'm sure it will not be scheduled again.

There are plenty of decent 4A and 5A programs that could have presented more of a challenge.

Scott would have nothing to do with that. I believe Webster had them a team to play up all Scott had to do was play in that bowl and the decided not to. It was a bad deal for Websters coaches and their kids. Their previous coach should never be allowed to coach again for doing such a crazy thing! The Scribe
One of Scott County's assistant coaches, Scott Willard, used to be the head coach at Webster County. I'm not sure what dynamic, if any, played into that. I do know that Webster County is a cash-strapped district, eliminating a couple of non-revenue sports a few years ago. The district also does not provide transportation to away sporting events. If there was money being thrown at them, I'm sure there were several factors involved from Webster's end that may go higher than the coach. My apologies if I was wrong on that detail. I know Belfry was trying to work out a deal to get Scott Co to play. The way it was told to me, I believed Scott Co was willing but couldn't work it out. If that wasn't accurate, then it wasn't intentional on my part to mislead anyone.
jack99
Let's be honest, everything in these threads is second or third hand info or even farther out. None of us are sitting in on the coach's meetings. I promise you that all Scott Co coaches, players and fans would have like a more competitive match up last weekend, but there were no 4A, 5A or 6A takers for week 2. Scott Co is solid on O, D and special teams this year and they don't need to avoid anyone. Let's all move on and see how the season plays out.
