blue and white mom
Thanks for the post TOG. JV games tend to get little attention other than us parents :-) Frustrating game to watch today. Hoping our young men make adjustments for next week
theguru
You are a good dude tog to start off congratulating the other team. Thanks for the info! blue and white mom, what were you thoughts on the game today, please be as detailed as possible?
blue and white mom
I thought the O line was not making holes or giving the QB time to read the field. Luke Bir was essentially not used second half of game. Our passing game was nonexistant. Dixie found our weak spot and was able to capitalize. A lot of these kids are sophomores who in the last 2 years have dominated every game except Highlands and are not used to being behind--in fact starters in that class rarely played an entire game because of how dominant they were. Last but not least happy with the D line, but of course I'm a little prejudiced :-)
Theoldguy
Dixie fans who was #60 for Dixie JV? The young man was not listed on your roster nor on a parents roster when we asked during a Time Out in the 1st quarter. Was impressed with the young man. Middle school football is a little convoluted so it is hard to get a read there. However, JV football may be the toughest of all to know what you are seeing. Why wasn't Bir used in the second half of the game?
blue and white mom
I know guru, point being that is a challenge they will need to learn. No one in the stands had any explanation for the lack of Bir, but a question asked by a lot of spectators. Does TOG have any insight for this game? None of the Dixie fans knew who 60 was in our area. Qryche11
This is somewhat surprising considering last year's Dixie Frosh and JV teams were not good at all. Cov Cath I thought had some solid Frosh and JV teams and seem to be re-loading on talent. Who were the key contributors for Dixie?
Voice of Reason
This is somewhat surprising considering last year's Dixie Frosh and JV teams were not good at all. Cov Cath I thought had some solid Frosh and JV teams and seem to be re-loading on talent. Who were the key contributors for Dixie? I try not to read anything into JV games. They truly are games for experience above all else as well as opportunities for those hard working lesser talented players in the program. However, I agree with Q about the talent that has come through CCH's freshman teams the last couple of years. I also have heard (please correct me if wrong) that CCH actually sets aside more practice time than most programs for their JV team. Those two factors make this game a little bit of a head scratcher. On the other hand, CCH seems to have moved some of their better sophomores straight up to varsity so perhaps that talent from the past two years isn't playing JV ball. While Dixie's freshman were awful last year the JV team was not that bad. You probably just saw them against the best JV team in NKY and they got destroyed there no doubt. They had a record of 6 and 3 only loosing to Highlands, Conner and Boone.
kyvince
"On the other hand, CCH seems to have moved some of their better sophomores straight up to varsity so perhaps that talent from the past two years isn't playing JV ball." No doubt some of that talented Sophomore class is playing with the varsity, but that is no excuse for the loss. CovCath was playing well, and Dixie was struggling early in this one. CovCath had a chance to go up 2 scores early, but failed to score inside the Red Zone. Dixie became revitalized and it was back and forth the rest of the game. I was very impressed by attitude and the exhuberance that the Dixie squad showed. In contrast CovCath acted as if they were entitled to the win. There were some very nice individual performances, but as a whole the CovCath squad played very uninspired. Congrats to Dixie, I hope CovCath rebounds and plays with more passion next week.
