Not being anywhere near an expert but I believe the embalming chemicals would prevent the dog from smelling. It goes against most everything I believe, but I think it's innate. As a longtime dog owner, they just know...

Side note: the caption is one of my big "pet peeves" (no pun intended). I hate when people refer to a dog's owner as their "master". Really rubs me the wrong way.

You're right. In my home, my dog is "master". I am but a slave.
