As a pretty staunch conservative, I personally see Romney as being far more moderate than Huntsman, yet I believe Romney will be the nominee. I may be proven wrong, but that's my view of the two. Of course, I'm just one guy...

 

With Huntsman, I think it's that he was a one-term Governor of a small state, and then a two-year ambassador to China. He just doesn't have the name recognition of some (Romney, Perry) nor the big mouth of others (Bachmann).

 

I, at this point, know nothing of Huntsman. However, the fact that he's been an ambassador to China has me interested. Going forward, it's my belief that US diplomatic relations with China are going to be critical. I'm intrigued by his experience there. Definitely will be looking into that, as well as everything else.

I really liked him as well. He came across as very thoughtful and intelligent. He is clearly not an off-the-cuff guy like Perry and Romney (to a lesser extent). I suspect either Mitt or Rick will get the nomination, but Huntsman looks like a very possible Vice President choice.

I feel he is a serious contender. Don't think he'll necessarily win the nomination, but he'll be there till the end IMO.

I only watched half of the debate last night (planning to watch the other half tonight or tomorrow), but from what little I saw, I was basically ho-hum with Huntsman's performance. I still like him and some of his positions, but I just don't see him standing much of a chance right now.

 

I don't care for Romney, but I thought he was dominant last night. Without question, his best debate performance to date (including 2008).

 

I thought Perry was average, at best. He certainly did not come across as a frontrunner to me.

 

Bachmann's fifteen minutes are up.

 

I absolutely love Herman Cain and would feel confident in his handling of the economy. Very intrigued by his 9-9-9 proposal. But on other issues he seems lost. Doesn't really matter, because he has no chance.

 

Newt is the crusty, old grandfather who has tunnel vision for defeating Obama. Still, I like what he adds to the debates.

 

Ron Paul needs to stay in the race so long as they have debates, because the guy never fails to make me laugh. And making me laugh is important.

 

If this is the complete Republican field, it's Romney or Perry. But if Romney is able to duplicate last night's performance on a consistent basis, he runs away with the nomination IMO.

When he did get his next question (non-health care related), he let the mods have it since he is a physician. Then he threw in some barbs at Perry, specifically over the HPV executive order deal in Texas.

Paul, IMO easily makes the most sense of all of the candidates. His only downfall is that he comes off as just a little bit crazy. IMO

Huntsman to me is hoaksy. He sounds like a normal greased up politician, simply reading off his notes and memorized statements. Boring to listen too.

BTW , we can't have it both ways. We can't bash for buying into the hype and style of Candidate Obama and then say we don't like the style of Gov Huntsman.
