Lewis County 33 Nicholas County 30

Recommended Posts

Nice win on the road for the Lions. Down 30-25 with less than three minutes to play when Parker (the db) stripped the ball and ran it in for the game winning score.

They were down 30-19 with about 3:10 left. We simply blew this one. Lewis Co couldnt sustain a drive all night. The only way they moved the ball were big plays.

Nicholas up 12-0 with :5 to go in the first half... TD pass called back. Remains 12-0 at half. Caleb Pope runs back the opening kick in the 2nd half, missed 2 pt conversion, 18-0 Jackets. Then, the big plays started. One long pass play and one long run makes it 18-12. Nicholas and Lewis trade scores (Lewis again scoring on a long run), 24-19. Nicholas gets a TO and quickly punches it in to make it 30-19 with about 3:10 left. Next Lewis County dirve, blown coverage again and the Lions score on about a 50 yard pass. Two or three plays into Nicholas' next drive, and about 1:30 left on the clock, the ball squirts out and falls directly into a Lewis Co player's hands, who runs it back 40 yards for the game winning TD.

Terrible loss for the Jackets. We should be 1-0.

When you lose, it is time to fix problems, not blame the other team. Last year, Lewis County would have lost a game like that for the exact same reasons. This year, they responded after half-time and found a way to win. I say this out of true respect for your team. Coach Hop always has a team that plays hard, and it is quite obvious that with Mr. Pope in the backfield, you are a hard playing team with talent. Instead of complaining about what you did wrong, fix it! There are still 9 games left (guaranteed that is).

I didnt blame the other team... I blamed our team. And nothing I do or say has any effect on the team since I dont coach or play.

EDIT: And really, its not the kids' fault. Im not going to blame a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds, they played hard.

Ok, buddy. I guess you and I are just a little different (and that's ok). The last 2 years Nicholas beat Lewis simply because they played harder. I didn't make any excuses or downplay NC's ability to score or say it was blown coverage this or that. I gave credit where it was due. Look, I know that NC had more than their share of opportunities, and I know that execution was not there. But here's where I'm at, Lewis County had some real soul searching to do at half time...and they busted their butts to come back and win the game. At the end of the day, what we type on here really doesn't matter, and hopefully the players aren't reading this stuff anyway, I just don't think you can take that win away from the players by saying blown coverage and ball squirts out and falls directly into a LC players hands. You needed 2 1st downs to seal the deal, we needed a big play. It is what it is.

Congratulations to Lewis, they are much improved this season, and I think they will win some more before it's over. Good luck to both Lewis County and Nicholas County in the rest of the season. I'll only root against Nicholas County once this season, but I hope they win the rest of them.

We obviously wont agree on this, but Ill make my points and leave it at that. If we dont see the same thing, then thats fine.

My point is Lewis Co could not move the ball consistently all night. When they scored it would be a 65 yard run or a 55 yard pass... with blown coverage. Blown coverage can be stated as a reason for the loss because its not as if it was a great pass after a receiver beat the defender... it was no defender within 15 yards of the ball. It was like the D forgot what scheme they were running...numerous times

Im not taking away a win from the Lions or saying they didnt give it their all... its obvious they did or they wouldnt have won. But I also wont give way on my stance that Nicholas had this game and should have won it... terrible defensive plays, giving up HUGE passing/running plays and then not taking care of the ball at the end of the game blew it.

If we dont see the same way, again, that is fine. Congratulations to you on the win.

EDIT: And I was not saying that the ball fell into a Lewis Co player's hands by some sort of magic that prevented the Jackets from winning... it literally did fall into his hands. Helmet to ball contact... ball popped out and was directly in the guy's chest.
