Montgomery County 2011/2012

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2011/2012 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Montgomery County? Remember, please be constructive.

Looking for great things from Montgomery County this year if the injury bug has left town. Several players got playing time this summer when the injury bug dropped by for a visit. If I am not mistaken we had three players with broken wrists at one time. An adjustment period will be in place with a new coach/system. Combs needs to develop in the middle. Prewitt and Handshoe can light it up from outside. Fruth has the experience to run the offense at the point plus if left alone he is not afraid to shoot it up from 3. I think there will also be some younger players that will be ready to step up when needed. I am looking forward to an exciting season.

The Gateway Holiday Classic the year will be a good measuring stick for the Indians. The Boys Tournament will have 2011 Sweet 16 participant Marshall County, plus Bryan Station, Madison Central, Owen County, Harrison County, Campbell County and Louisivlle Male in addition to Montgomery County.

Montgomery Co is my pre-season pick to be #1 in the region.

I am sure the Montgomery Co fans will have high expectation for this team too. Hey the new coach stepped into a great situtation.

Brandon is a great kid and has played point since the 3rd grade. He's very steady.

Who does Montgomery Co play in this tourney? In the Ky Bank Shootout , Dec 10th at Bourbon Co, Montgomery Co plays Ashland, think this will be a good measuring stick for the Indians early in the season.

The Joe B. Classic on Jan 21th has some very good matchups. I am going to try and make that one. Trinity vs Madison Central and Rowan Co vs Bullitt East has some great talent and should be some great games.

I hope the new coach and AD will continue with these great classics that Montgomery Co has put together in the last several years.

Jake Handshoe is doing very well in recovering from his injuries in early June and will again run the point. Handshoe already has schools such as Cornell, Oakland (MI), Vermont and Gardner-Webb who are interested.

Any truth to the rumor that a new PG has moved in to Montgomery Co?

I am definitely not saying Handshoe won't run the point, but I would think the new coach would make the decision on who runs the point.

Of course I have not seen any of the team this fall and who is adapting to the new coach and his style, I would think the following would be in place:

Brandon Fruth - PG

Jake Handshoe - SG

Omar Prewitt - SF

The PF and C positions are open with several different possibilities. Some combinations might not even use these positions. The talent is there to throw different combos out on the floor depending on the opponent.

Found out that the new player I was asking about is Josh Poynter, 6'2 or 6'3 point guard. He went to school at Montgomery Co as a kid and moved to Martinsville, Va and is now back.

Any truth of him being at MC? If so how will he fit into the lineup?

I believe he was playing on the JV team this summer to get aquainted to the new system and decided that wasn't the best use of his time and quit. Not sure he will help the Indians anyway.

Thanks for the info.
