August 6, 201115 yr Author Which popular U.S. president said this? "The soundest way to raise revenues in the long run is to cut taxes now. The purpose of cutting taxes now is... to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus." To this I would add in August 2011. "...cut taxes now, and reduce spending..."
August 6, 201115 yr spending in the 40s with FDR is different than now, at least FDR put the money into making jobs, all we do now is give to businesses to keep from going under and create no new jobs. Why dont our fearless leaders take a huge paycut themselves to prove they do care about our country, I say at least 90% dont have to have any money anyway.

Is there a difference between new jobs vs not losing existing jobs in today's economy? Can we agree that had we lost automotive jobs and ancillary jobs that it would be worse than it is now? 2. Taking a cut is silly, meaningless idea.

August 6, 201115 yr So much for Geithner saying in April that there is "no risk" the U.S. will lose its top credit rating.

"...cut taxes now, and reduce spending..." Cutting taxes over the past 30 years has done such a wonderful job getting us to this point, hasn't it? Anyone talking tax cuts now is off their rocker. Our tax rates overall are at a low point so why aren't things better? Businesses don't need the money to grow. Our large corporations sit on their cash and do nothing with it. Corporate profits are excellent and most companies are just sitting on the cash.
August 6, 201115 yr Author My guess would be Reagan or Kennedy. You are 50% correct Sir. Care to narrow it down to be 100% correct?
August 6, 201115 yr ^ Raising taxes in this economy could do more harm though. I agree with that. I am open to not renewing recent tax cuts like the Bush cuts. If we just do that, it will raise revenue and should have zero impact on the economy. But until they get more cuts in place and/or somehow get the deficit spending fixed, I agree on no new taxes or changes in tax rates. Keep the pressure on these guys/gals to make the tough decisions.

Smart business people would be insane to dump cash into these choppy waters. INSANE... Obama talks about having "skin in the game", but there is something fundamentally wrong with people who pay zero taxes and draw a chunk (if not all) of their income from the government, while at the same time having the "right" to vote for pandering, spineless legislators who will continue to supply them in order to keep their power. I'm NOT talking about retirees who've paid their dues, or the genuinely infirmed with no better options. I'm talking about millions fully able to work that have found ways to game the system. Businesses of all sizes have been demonized as though they are greedy, miserly, and evil... when they (their owners) are the ones sticking their necks out, taking risks, making investments, growing or keeping jobs, and doing their best to weather a bad, bad economy. It is absolutely destructive to punish achievement while rewarding failure, lack of effort, sloth, whinyness, etc. Edited August 6, 201115 yr by Fastbreak

Taxes are low. Companies have a lot of cash and are reporting more profits every quarter. Credit is at an all time low. It is a buyer's market in the labor pool for any business that wants to expand. If there ever was a low risk time to expand business, this is it. So what's the problem? It isn't taxes. It isn't lending. It isn't labor. :idunno:

It isn't labor. :idunno: It's feeble leadership in a government system fully capable of punishing success. It's a clear message from the party in power that businesses have it too easy and should be taxed harder and they need to do more. The whole Obamacare mess with exemptions to those favored by the administration but enforcement to all others who must pick up the tab. The pandering to a constituency wanting more government benefits, in exchange for voter loyalty. That's not the kind of climate that fosters confidence and growth. FAIL I honestly haven't listened to Rush in months, but thanks... I'm certain he would be pleased. :thumb:
August 6, 201115 yr Taxes need raised on people making over $250k. Any business employing under 50 people needs tax breaks and an exemption from Obama Care. That would be a start. With that said, this President is as bad as there has ever been....but the GOP of this generation isn't that far behind him.
August 6, 201115 yr Author Anybody with kids understands what it's like to knock your tail off to provide for your family, and have 90% of your efforts go unappreciated... simply because they just do not understand what goes into generating the revenues your family needs to function... much less to have their "wants" met. And yet, we as loving parents continue to do what we must do, realizing that some day... hopefully, they will understand and will learn from our examples. I see our current political leadership much in the same way I see teenagers who think they have it all figured out, yet do not have the skills or self-discipline needed to thrive on their own. They do not want input from mom or dad, but constantly demand more from them. "I want the car keys and gas money... not a lecture." We have narcissistic adolecents running our nation. They somehow have the notion that we work for them, not that they are there to serve the best interests of ALL of the American people.
