Beach Ball Classic Tourney 2011

Featured Replies

I see where Ballard and Scott County are in a loaded field in Myrtle Beach this coming season. I also know Trinity is at the City of Palms in Fort Myers. Great to see this representation for the state of Kentucky.

I really enjoyed the Beachball Classic last year. Great tourney with lots of coaches and some of the best talent from across the US with nationally ranked teams. Where I saw Jullius Randall, he is ranked the #1 player for the 2013 class. Also we played against Coach Loveless of The Boys and Girls team, she is a heck of a coach. Who else is in the tourney?

Probably the top 2 seeds will be Bishop Gorman and Prestonwood Christian. Defending large school Louisiana state champ St Augustine will be tough, along with Milton out of Georgia. All teams are tough I am sure. The rest of the field will be Gaffney, SC, Lakota East from Ohio, Lexington SC, Lone Peak out of Utah, Miami Sr., host Myrtle Beach, Rye NY, Socastee SC, St Edward Ohio, and Whitney Young of Illinois. Would love to make that tourney, but at least they normally stream it over the internet.

Bishop Gorman won it in 2009, they are always loaded. Prestonwood Christian has Julius Randle (#1 player in class of 2013) and Zack Peters(committed to Kansas). Prestonwood was in it this past year, they came in 3rd in the winners brackett. The Boys and Girls team defeated them to go on to the championship game. Prestonwood then defeated Douglass (OK) to take 3rd place.

I did some research before I went last year of all the players I wanted to see that was highly rated. Made myself a little notebook of names and their ranking. One was Zack Peters of Prestonwood. I hadn't been watching them long, when this other player keep impressing me more and more...Julius Randle. Randle made the all tourney team, but Zack Peters did not.

I am sure that this year they will have a backup backboard and someone there that can install it, with all the tools....unlike last year when Zollo shattered the backboard and we had to wait 1 1/2 hours for play to resume.

Great tourney I would recommend anyone to go if you can.

Yes they have live stream of most of the games...here is the link:

Bishop Gorman is led by 2012 Kentucky recruit Shabazz Muhammad, likely the top overall player in the entire class.

They are the favorite to win the Beach Ball Classic, IMO.

Randle is the better player right now and the better prospect long term. Love watching Bazz do work, but it is really not even close between the two...

Whitney Young will also be very talented, but you never know what team will show up in terms of effort night in and night out. Tommie Hamilton and Jahlil Okafor are big time...

Randle is also being recuited by UK....I sure hope they get him.

I agree with GT. I haven't seen Bazz in person , but I have Randle. I have seen Bazz on TV. Randle really impressed me last year, and this was before he was ranked so high as he is now.

What other players should we look for in the teams that are going to be there?

Those are the biggest names off the top of my head. Milton was a force last year but lost 3 high major players so they will be reloading. I will take a look at the rest if I get some free time to examine...

Thanks. I plan to watch the tourney on line this year.

Sounds like some serious talent in this tourney as usual. Should be interesting to see how SC and Ballard do.

I think I might try to go this year. Having two Kentucky teams and two UK recruits in action is enough to keep me busy!

Also, let me just say that you didn't hear it from me, but I have reason to believe that Scott County will be pretty solid this season.

Milton has reloaded. They return Evan Nolte and Shaq Johnson who have committed to Virginia and Auburn I think, and they have gotten transfers Charles Mann who just committed to Georgia, and Tevin Glass one of the top underclassmen in the country. Plus I believe their JV was like 29-1. St Edwards and Lone Peak both have great programs and Miami Sr. here in Florida is getting their program back to where is used to be which was tops in the country. I can't wait. I will go to Fort Myers most likely as I do every year, but I will definitely watch this one on the internet.

KY teams have done well in this tourney.

2010, GRC runner-up in Consolation brackett.

2009, Scott Co 3rd in Consolation brackett.

2008, Elliott Co runner up in Consolation brackett.

2007, Scott Co didn't place.

2006, Scott Co placed 5th.

2001, North Hardin placed 3rd.

2000, Ballard won the tourney.
