July 20, 201115 yr Just heard on the radio that 1 portion of the Gang of 6 plan that Obama has endorsed is elimination of the mortgage interest deduction. So much for not raising taxes on people making less then $250K. If Obama is a man of his word shouldn't he veto this?
July 20, 201115 yr First, let's keep in mind that this Gang of Six proposal is just that - a proposal from 3 Ds and 3 Rs. Secondly, that same proposal also drops income tax rates that currently range from 10% to 35% to 8% - 29%. Lastly, President Obama has not put forth his own plan much to the chagrin of lawmakers so he has not endorsed any specific plan. He did seem to indicate this plan was heading in the right direction and was bipartisan.
July 20, 201115 yr Author ALL I know is that EVERYTHING that Obama has pushed through has cost ME more. This sounds like no exception. I make no where near $250K. Obama is a liar, his sycophants can spin this any way they want but I believe what I believe.

July 20, 201115 yr Author Right off the bat as a direct result of Obamacare (this straight from the mouth of my very Obama supporting boss) the cost of my insurance and my out of pocket portion has drastically increased because of the mandate that requires coverage for dependents up to 26 and the new rules regarding costs of family plans. My co-workers with family coverage actually saw a decrease in their premiums. My boss spun is as that some of us had to take a hit in the interest of the common good. LG&E in Louisville has already requested a 19% rate increase over the next several years so Obama could fulfill his promise of sky rocketing electric costs in an effort to bankrupt the coal industry. The Metro Sewer District in Louisville has announced a rate increase in order to pay for EPA mandated changes. That's 3 off the top of my head.

Your boss can throw in his political beliefs if he wants but insurance costs have increased and benefits have dropped every single year for me for as long as I can remember. What was the blame for this before Obamacare? How much would rates have increased and benefits dropped without Obamacare? LG&E in Louisville has already requested a 19% rate increase over the next several years so Obama could fulfill his promise of sky rocketing electric costs in an effort to bankrupt the coal industry. Higher environmental standards yes, this one you may be right to attibute to Obama policy. Bankrupting the coal industry?? ... I don't think that is an objective. The Metro Sewer District in Louisville has announced a rate increase in order to pay for EPA mandated changes. These EPA policies were in place long before Obama entered office. Rate increases due to EPA mandates have been happening in N. Ky. for several years and started during the Bush regime if I recall correctly. So I will give you a half correct on one of your reasons. The rest of your statements are political rhetoric versus accurate statements of fact.
July 20, 201115 yr What has to happen to fix the fiscal mess is going to hurt everyone. Not one person is to blame, it's been 20 years of mismanagement and overspending by both parties.
July 20, 201115 yr So I will give you a half correct on one of your reasons. The rest of your statements are political rhetoric versus accurate statements of fact.If you don't think Obamacare passing resulting in increases to yours, mine, and AllTell's premiums then there isn't much reason to continue. You are obvioulsy completely blinded by your political lines.
July 20, 201115 yr If you don't think Obamacare passing resulting in increases to yours, mine, and AllTell's premiums then there isn't much reason to continue. You are obvioulsy completely blinded by your political lines. I don't have any political lines. I am open minded, look at facts and make decisions on what I see, hear and read. I don't allow pundits (on either side) looking for ratings to control my view and my thinking. The fact is my insurance costs and available plans get worse every year and this started long before Obama and Obamacare were here. I don't doubt that Obamacare will increase costs, especially early on. I also have no doubt that there needed to be some effort at change because my health insurance options have been getting worse annually for years. Whether Obamacare will be better or worse than the crap I have experienced over the past 10+ years, I am not sure but I do applaud someone trying something.

I'm so glad that I have someone like you to correct me I was told directly to my face that the reason my coverage took such a drastic change was because of the mandates of Obamacare. I distinctly remember Obama saying that his environmental agenda would cause electrical rates to skyrocket (one of the few times he told the truth) and a letter I got from MSD explaining their rate hike specifically mentioned NEW EPA regs. I'll give you an A+ for carrying Obama's water.

If you really believe this then a real debate is impossible. I have no problem admitting that I don't like Obama or his policies and that he would have to hit a bases empty grand slam for me to say anything positive about him. I find it very telling that you are willing to see something bad happen just to see something change.
July 20, 201115 yr As to the original topic... What I see is a lot of fluff and little details. A bunch of passing the buck to committees in the future. Much ado about nothing. But it sounds good.

As to Obama, I have no problem criticizing him or any other politician REGARDLESS OF PARTY. In fact, on the topic of this thread, I think Obama has stunk it up royally. His performance and lack of leadership in the budget and debt ceiling debate has been abysmal and IMO is the worst performance by him during his administration. As to the Gang of Six plan, at least we have someone truly working on compromise ... something truly lacking in our government in recent times.
