Are you serious!!!!! So mad about this pick. I had a feeling you'd take him for some reason. Outside of Vick I think he's the biggest risk/reward guy in the draft, but if he improves this year he's going to be a better fantasy QB than a few of the ones taken in front of him IMO.

What is the big risk? He had a great year last year. No reason to think he can't do that again.

One year wonder possibly. His numbers from last year were completely different from year 1, almost abnormally so. Maybe the truth in his game lies somewhere between the two statlines? I don't expect him to only have a handfull of INTs again this year.

 

Don't get me wrong he is who I wanted in this round. He's one of the few QBs in the league that gains legitimate rushing yardages and potential TDs. He's careful with the ball. He has some good teammates around him. But there is always some risk around young QBs or QBs who do run very often IMO.

Figured someone would use that one. I had a tough time choosing between Eli and Freeman. If Eli lowers his Ints he can be very good. And considering a significant amount of his Ints were tipped passes off his wr's hands, I think his int numvers will go down.

Seriously? We have already started the run on TEs? Not who I wanted this round, but I hate to have to start early on getting a quality TE.

 

Didn't need a QB. No top tier RB's or WR's left(at least none that I wanted this early), so why not take a Top 5 TE? I know I wasn't getting him with my next pick.

 

Believe me, I didn't want to take a TE this early, but I've been through a few of these drafts and know how they work. Last year, JA screwed me more than once on picks I was going to take.

Hope I don't regret this. But I think he's going to have a really good season...

I feel like every year we have this exact same conversation. Someone takes Gates. Someone else jokes about him going early and then the person who picks him defends himself by saying exactly what you said...every year haha!

Seriously, if you wait for a guy that you've seen picked in Round 5-6 in other league drafts, chances are he's going in round 3-4 in this league. Clowns like AR and GT or JA swoop in and take them right out from under your nose.

Completely true. I don't pretend to be a fantasy football guru by any means, but I love playing/drafting in this league with 16 teams. Makes me much stronger and more competitive in leagues with my buddies.

Gates caught 29 passes for 478 yards and seven touchdowns during the first five games of the 2010 season before injuring his foot Week 6 at St. Louis. He managed 304 yards and three touchdowns in the season’s final 11 games, missing six due to the injury. As long as he's healthy, Gates should return as a standout option in all leagues. We consider Gates the No. 1 Fantasy TE in all leagues, and he's worth drafting as early as Round 4.
