Yeah I agree, humble is not a word one could use to describe her.

 

To be fair, humble isn't a word I'd use to describe a lot of people I know....and they're not Oprah. :lol: "Humble" doesn't seem to be a word that means anything in today's society. It's all about pride and self-promotion for everyone, from the least famous or rich, on up.

That's what you got out of that? Where did I say it was OK? It's just worse when you're as grandiose as she is about it. Luckily, most of us don't have the stage to take it to her extreme.

Anyway...your last sentence says it all. You feel that "luckily" most people aren't in the position to have people know about their pride at such a highly publicized level. From that, I deduce that you feel that lack of humility is just fine unless one is in a position of public nature.

The more I think about, the more I realize it's really just a difference in perspective on what one feels another should do when in a position that is bound to bring publicity to them.

 

1) There are those who think that public persona's are only doing good works or endorsing causes to get publicity.

2) There are those who think that public persona's utilize their ability to draw publicity to bring attention to the causes they choose to endorse, or issues they have an opinion about.

So Oprah didn't get involved in Politics? :lol:

 

That wasn't my point. Phil Donohue once said that he would love to do shows about politics, but the viewers were not interested in that. I remember seeing shows about Siamese twins, and a woman who was paralyzed but made a living by playing a keyboard with her tongue. A lot of his shows had freaky topics.

 

Oprah refused to do negative shows, and of course she also covered politics.

I didn't watch it, would have had to be paid good money to watch it. I have NO Respect for the woman at all.

I was thrilled to finall get that woman off t.v. and the very next day the station that the show was on started running Oprah reruns. :ohbrother::lol:

It's one thing if a news organization picks up on it, and does a story on it. It's quite another when you film it and flaunt all the good you do, then make said videos available for purchase.

 

Agreed, that is just one example of that womans ultra ego maniac personality. Everything that she does is to promote "It's" own image, she does nothing for anyone unless she can let the world know that she is the "almighty one" that did it. That woman (I won't even call her by name) is the most self righteous human being on planet earth. At times I honestly believe that she thinks that she is above God and if she believes some of her own comments about God and Salvation then all the Billions that she accumulates will not buy her own salvation.

I find her incredibly annoying. I also think she flaunts her wealth and power unnecessarily. You went to Africa and donated tons of money to the needy, which is wonderful, but do you really need to film it and make it available for purchase? Sounds self-serving to me. I agree with Jim, yes she's done a ton of good, but I seriously question her motives. I think she's a very self-absorbed person.:thumb: That woman does nothing unless she can promote herself by doing it.

No, I mean luckily most of us aren't that cut off from humility because our heads are so full of ourselves. We all make mistakes, most of us realize it and try to correct it. Some just profit off it.
