Mr. Landry is either ignorant or is playing pure politics when he says the following. Neither are very appealing.

 

The last recess appointment President Obama made was Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Becker’s nomination was rejected by the Senate. He is a man who argues that employers should have no say in union formations and who ruled that a private company could not relocate to a non-union state.

This comment made by the POTUS recently is going to disappoint Cammando because it goes against the reason he started this thread.

 

What I do know is this: that as a general proposition, companies need to have the freedom to relocate. They have to follow the law, but that's part of our system. And if they’re choosing to relocate here in the United States, that's a good thing. And what it doesn’t make -- what I think defies common sense would be a notion that we would be shutting down a plant or laying off workers because labor and management can't come to a sensible agreement.

Why should it disappoint me? He will say anything right now to save his job.. He could have stopped it before it went this far.. But I am happy that he does possess at least a tad of common business sense...

cammando ... this post exemplifies the problem I have with the radical right - complete intractibility. As I read your many posts and those of some other posters I would call hard right wingers, it seems as if you have a hard vision of the world and people that is set in stone with no consideration to change. New ideas you weren't aware of, they don't matter. New information, doesn't matter. There is nothing that anyone can say concerning most issues or people that will cause you to reconsider your position. It seems to me that I see more of this in the radical right and/or hard right than elsewhere. If someone brings up a new point or information, the right winger reverts to attack mode, labeling or a similar tactic to justify that hard line vision. Being closed minded is not good IMO.

It is interesting that the 'relocation' word keeps coming up. The LA Times make it sound like the President is giving in. I think not. In fact, he seemed to know exactly was he was saying and how it can be construed. 'Relocation' will be perceived by most as 'punishment' of the union by most who are not familiar with the details of this case. And if that where the case it could be seen how this would be intimidation. However, as we all know, Boeing is 'relocating' nothing. Any mention of 'relocation' is factually incorrect. So the office of the President is propagating a lie. Why?

Your point is only valid if the execs hadnt initially agreed to add the shift in WA AND had they not made the comments they made on numerous occasions.

Yes, you did give him some credit so that is good, regardless of how begrudgingly and with qualification it was given. I am sure there are many on the liberal left that are intractible as well ... it just seems to me there are a lot more on the right. Speaking in generalities, I find liberals are open minded. That is good but it can also be bad. You can't just say anything goes. You have to have some convictions and standards. So both sides have things to work on. That's why I stay right there nicely in the middle. I leave the bad traits to those on the edge and bring the good traits to the middle.

Not at all. Had he stopped it or even promoted it (which I think he did neither) the hullaballoo about interference would have been deafening. The law was either broken or it wasn't. It's that simple. It's not for the POTUS to decide.
