Interesting that Beechwood went with Hyde after Johnson instead of Bertke. Perhaps they didn't want to push Bertke too hard with the hamstring. I couldn't tell from the article in the paper who gave up the runs. It sounds like Cain handled Beechwood for the first five but Beechwood put up runs against Schmitts and Sullivan. How did the scoring go inning by inning and who gave up the runs for Beechwood? Sounded like the defense let Beechwood down in the sixth and led to the NCC victory. Congrats to the Breds and good luck at state.

I wouldnt say Beechwood blew this game. Like Coach Myerhoff said after the game, NCC beat us in every phase of the game. Good luck to the Breds against Sayre.

Myerhoff could could have said that because NCC played well or because Beechwood played poorly. I would guess it was a combination of both but probably more about the errors in the sixth that gave NCC most of their runs. On the good side for NCC, Cain controlled the Beechwood bats.

This outcome does not surprise me one bit, Myerhoff is not going to sugarcoat it, he knows when he has been beat whether he likes it or not, NewCath is a very good baseball team and good baseball teams beat you on your own mistakes. NewCath is loaded with talent, there record doesnt indicate it but they will be there in the end in both the All A and the open Region final. NewCath is layin in the weeds for some people that pounded them earlier in the yr and with their pitching depth and a good draw, they could very well win the All A State and make some serious noise in the open State tourney.
