Some of the guys do need a little work on base running technique. But that's what the rest of the season is for.

The ball was there plenty early to make the tag, but since the ump did a good job of getting down the line & was right on top of it, you've got to assume he missed the tag.

 

Bottom line is: speed kills. The Frog can flat-out fly.

Colin has beefed up since last season too, his shot to the gap in deep left is proof of his strength.

No big deal, but (being closely connected to an individual involved in the play, who would not lie to his uncle for fear of doom), I can assure you he did not miss the tag. The kid was out by at least a step.

Who else played well for both teams?

 

How about the job done by the starting pitcher for the Birds? I think he had some pretty impressive stats.

No doubt. I couldn't figure out who took the field at 2nd base to start the game until Colin came to the plate in the bottom half of the inning. I watched him all last season, and I truthfully didn't recognize him from the bleachers!

I was told that many of the 8th Region teams do this (play JV after V) rather than swap fields (V home & JV away or vice versa). There are some obvious advantages: travel costs cut in half, fringe V player who sits bench just in case gets to play JV, pitching management may be easier, etc. The obvious disadvantages: WV can't make it to Fort Thomas for an early start, very little daylight this early in the season, the V game goes extra innings.

 

Was the field in pretty good shape? I know coaches, parents and probably some kids put in some time up there on SUN to get things "spruced up" for Opening Day!!!

The field looked great to me.

Great, great win for Coach B and his team. Wow!!! The excitement at Highland park brought back memories of 95' / 96' when the kids piled up on the Meyer kid after scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. Good for them........ Side note, I heard the bench Coach Racker (sp) was found on the bottom of the pile after celebrating with the kids. Good Stuff right there........

Ditto on that. It's the best I can remember the field looking at this time of year. Improved drainage seems to have really helped. Once the weather is consistently warmer & the grass really gets to growing it should be a very nice field.

I stopped up to get something from coach B on Sat and he had has little kids up there working on it. Thats what it takes to keep things looking good. I have been very impressed with the role he has taken on the field.

Spoke with him yesterday about getting one of the Woodfill fields up to par and looking great so the softball team at HHS and the knothole kids can have a nice field in the fort like they have at Bartlet. He is on board and excited about the kids in town having a nice small field to get the feeder program running.
