Anderson County 2011

What does Anderson County need to do to improve in
2011?
What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Anderson just needs to keep doing what they have been doing. Mark Peach has done an amazing job rebuilding that program. Things are shaping up nicely for the bearcats with the new alignment and they have a chance to make a run at it all this year!!!

They have just as good a chance as anybody to rep the East in 5A next year. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see them in Bowling Green. They had John Hardin on the ropes this year in the Region Final. Then John Hardin used a little thing called, "I'm faster than you" and, won it in the final minutes.

Coach Peach has done a great job of building the program. He has done it the right way with hard work and accountability. He scheduled well and now has the program winning and has given them confidence they can play with anyone, which is evidenced by their performance against John Hardin. I think one contributing factor is that Coach Peach has been calling the offense from day one and he has a great defensive coordinator in Duane Hammons who has been on the defensive side of the ball since day one. Some of the other assistants have moved on but Coach Peach has always replaced them with quality coaches. Administrative support is there and if they keep following the same blueprint with the new alignment then they can definitely make some noise.

Still a lot of work to do, I seen them last year scrimmage Franklin County, and was not impressed they had trouble with the speed of the flyers and this will be who they face in the district. They also seem to drop a game here and there during the season each year which makes me think they are a long way off of winning it all.

I don't think anyone is claiming they will win it all. Just saying they have done a good job with building the program and they are headed in the right direction and the new alignment does help them.

Coach Peach is a great play caller, probably one of the best around! They do have great support and administration at Anderson. Pigskin you bring up a great point about Duane Hammons. He is a very strong defensive mind with alot of years of experience. You can't put a price on that! If memory serves correct he had the leading rush defense in 5A not to many years ago. A truly great assett to Anderson Co!!

Really? A scrimmage? Not just a scrimmage, but a scrimmage that just happened to be the teams 1st varsity action in a year that was coming off losing QB Jacob Russell who is now at EKU, their leading rushers and leading WR from '09, all of whom also started on Defense (Russell included).

Outside of Trinity, X, Highlands and Boyle, enlighten us quality programs in this state that don't lose a game here or there on a yearly basis?

Franklin County wasn't exactly your average program last year either. Their 4 losses were to Lafayette (6A Region Finalist), Boyle County (word on the street is that they like to play some football), Holmes (one of the best years in history, depsite a 1st round upset. They have as much talent as anybody) and East Jessamine who had losses to Boyle Co. (twice) and LexCath.

Ummm is this a thread about what they need to do to get better or am I mistaken???? I think they need to get faster. I think to get better they need to be more consistent, the schedule they have played has not been one of the toughest the last few years and they have still managed to drop a game here and there. Didn't they get beat in the playoffs a few years ago in the first round after sweeping the district?

With that being said I think they have done a good job building the program, I remember the teams back in 2000, and 2001 that were very poorly coached. So I know where they had came from.

If I remember correctly. Last year I remember reading some stats that makes me think that they had lots of guys catching the ball. Certainly a few of them will be coming back. Does their QB come back?

Yeah, it is, but to use a scrimmage where they apparently didn't look good, that just so happened to be the same year they were a region finalist isn't, as supporting evidence of your opinion kind of contradicts when you look at their overall body of work in 2011.

Since '07 (their first year of playoffs under Peach) they have only been bounced out of the 1st round once ('09) after going 9-1 (two of those wins came against 3A Region Finalist Henry County by 35 points and beating a 6A District Champ in Meade County). Their schedule isn't the likes of a Boyle, Bowling Green, LexCath, Highlands, Trinity, X, etc. but, I would say it's about par or above when compared to most 4A/5A schools.

You're exactly right about the speed factor though, that was the trump card in the John Hardin game. No if, and or but about it.

Ok well looking at last year, they got beat by Henry County who was far from a finalists in 3A, dropping games like this to less talented teams is what I am saying, to take the next step and with the schedule they normally put together they need to run the table. Other than that they are just AWESOME!

You sure that "Just Swell" doesn't work better than "AWESOME"?

Anderson County is heading in the right direction under Peach. They had trouble containing the opposing teams speed last year and they will be one of the big things that they need to improve on going forward. The boys just need to keep working hard to get better each day. Good luck to the Bearcats of Anderson County! :thumb:
