LOL, I only see one Reds fan that thinks that so far. I love my Reds but the Brewers staff is very good and much better.

As far as the Reds rotation goes, they're strength is depth. They have 4-5 guys that are #2 or #3 starters, but no #1's. Along the same lines, they don't have any #4 or #5's either IMO. Plus I'll take the Reds bullpen and lineup over the Brewers.

I think Gallardo and Grienke are two of the more overrated pitchers in baseball. Marcum is a legit ace IMO, but I'm not overly impressed with the rest of their rotation.

Grienke has had 1 GREAT season, and a bunch of above average years. Volquez had 1 GREAT season too.

I disagree. I think Cueto and Arroyo are every bit as good as Gallardo. Not far off Grienke either. Outside of 1 season, Grienke's got an average ERA of 4.22. Good, but not a great pitcher. A definite #1? Very boarderline.

C - Hernandez vs. Lucroy Advantage Reds - I really don't know anything about the Brewers C situation so I can't intelligently comment here. I'll give the Reds an advantage.

 

1B - Votto vs. Fielder Very Slight Advantage Reds - Since we are talking solely lineup I think Votto has a miniscule advantage, if any over Prince.

 

2B - Phillips vs. Weeks Slight Advantage Brewers....Phillips has been trending downwards and Weeks is starting to put it together. I'll take the upside in this particular match-up.

 

3B - Rolen vs. McGehee Advantage Brewers - If you could reasonably expect anything more than 130 games from Rolen this would be closer. I don't think he gets that many.

 

SS - Janish vs. Betancourt - Slight Advantage Reds - Neither is contributing that much offensively.

 

LF - Gomes vs. Braun - MASSIVE Advantage Brewers - This shouldn't need any explanation.

 

CF - Stubbs vs. Gomez - Advantage Reds - I actually think Stubbs has a very good year.

 

RF - Bruce vs. Hart - Advantage Brewers - Both good players, but you always take the KY guy.

 

Seems a lot closer than "outside of Braun" to me. I think it's a matter of taste and I'd probably lean towards the Brewers personally.

I like this list. I think the Dodgers and Rockies might be better then the Braves, but it's hard to tell. Phillies and Sox defiently the class of each league.

 

They may be on top but isn't by that big of a margin. The biggest equalizer in baseball is the pitching staff. You can have a sub-par offense but with a good staff, you can make do. The Giants are living examples of that. The Braves are also in a similar mold (however they had one of the top OBP last year despite their lower BA). So while this is just a gist of the top teams, it can never be taken as set in stone.

 

But back to the point, the Braves have the more talented pitching staff and have a nice knit of young players mixed in with some veterans so I'd give them the nod of the Dodgers. The Rockies though are similar to the Braves so I could see that argument.

SS is advantage Reds. Renteria is definitely better than Bentancourt.

CF is a MASSIVE advantage for the Reds. I look for Stubbs to have a huge breakout year.

Arroyo had 21 out of 33 starts that were QS's. Cueto had 18 of 31 QS's.

 

Gallardo had 17 out of 31, and Marcum had 20 out of 31.

 

They all seem pretty darn similar to me.
