Wow. Hard to believe HC wins with such a poor shooting night. Looks like it was a case of first half turnovers. Congrats to HC. Conner's season continues to surprise and they finish with Holmes and NC.

Wow, Holy Cross scores 40 in the first half and 14 in the second. Again...wow.

Let me preface this with the statement that my question is not a personal attack against a high school player who busts his hump day in and day out.

 

How long can HC give minutes to Burger when he continues to struggle from both the field and the line? His shooting has really been poor over the last month it seems. If he's in for defensive or rebounding purposes then Coach Goetz needs to limit his shots until he shows he can make a decent percentage.

 

Again, I'd say this about any player who is struggling so don't make any assumptions. Heck, I'm a fan of the entire HC community. You just have to ask the hard questions sometimes.

Avery's statline not very impressive either but he's coming off a foot injury so he could have played limited minutes.

A lot of players in foul trouble last night. Do not know the foul count off of the top of my head but 1st half it was Conner 15 HC 9.

You would think with HC style of play that an athletic 6'9 wing be much more of a factor in the game?

 

Can Conner bounce back in time to be a factor in districts or will it be a situation where these guys can't wait for the season to end?

I am curious how Conner utilized Hodges against the HC press. I know Highlands had Stewart in the middle of the floor like NCC did with Geisler. He was a big target and when they took it away the Birds threw overtop down the sideline to another big target in Towles who several times hit Stewart slashing down the lane to the hoop for easy baskets.

 

I am guessing Flesch ran into trouble in deep in his own territory where HC likes to throw 3 players at you swarming like no tomorrow.

19 turnovers by Conner guards.

It appeard that Conner's plan for attacking the press was to inbound the ball to Flesch on the baseline and have him attempt to get the ball the length of the entire floor by himself. Either the other two guards were instructed to not bring the ball up or were not comfortable because the ball always went to Flesch. Holy Cross doubled and trippled up on him and he turned the ball over. The first half was ugly. The half time adjustments seemed to work and get Conner back in the game, but it was too little too late. You will not have much success digging a 20 point hole and coming back on the road against many teams. Holy Cross is very good at clock management. Although I give credit to the Cougars for battling back. It is another close one for them. The way this game was being officiated, it took the Cougars too long to figure out that they needed to attack the basket and draw fouls. This adjustment in the first half may have won this game.

Coach Hicks is 104-121 at Conner with 6 of 8 losing seasons (counting this year as a losing season - 99% chance it will end up that way even if they upset Ryle in the districts.) The record speaks for itself.
