Danville 55 Walton Verona 54

Featured Replies

Final from the All A. Walton led 45 - 28 at the end of the 3rd period and couldn't hold on to win. They had 3 critical turnovers in the last 2 minutes which led to 8 Danville points. Walton shot 50% compared to Danville's 37% and out rebounded them 32-20. Danville shot the lights out from 3 point land making 10. Again, turnovers were the difference with Walton having 20. This is a game Walton should have won but they didn't. Congrats to Danville.

Wow complete shock i thought that Walton was in total control at the end of the 3rd, did Danville just make everything in the 4th?

Wow!! 27 to 9 run to end the game. Any stats?

Danville made four 3's in the 4th quarter. What really killed Walton was their inability to take care of the ball. That's been the problem all year. They had 8 turnovers in the 4th quarter with 3 critical one's in the last 2 minutes. Kelli Dixon ended up with 27 points and Slavey had 15 but only shot once in the 4th quarter. Give Danville credit, it would have been easy for them to pack their bags and go home but they didn't. They completely out-played Walton in the 4th quarter and will advance to play NCC.

To give up 27 points in a quarter is just inexcusable and particularly with a 15 point lead.

Walton was actually up 48-30 with 7 minutes to play!

WOW!!! To lose an 18 point lead in the last 7 minutes. That's CRAZY!

You are correct when you say that's crazy! It should have never happened. Walton appeared to relax with the big lead and Danville never gave up. They made the most of every opportunity in the 4th quarter and Walton didn't respond like a top team should.

You can check the link on the other same titled thread that I created at the same time madman created his.

You left one key thing out madman...Slavey was red hot (5-7 from the 3pt line) with no fouls and comes out with 7:48 in the game and Miller doesn't put her back in until 3:38 and Walton only up by 5. This just baffles me as to why a Head Coach would leave his second leading scorer on the bench for 4 minutes. This was just an absolutely terrible coaching error that should have never happened.

Congrats to Danville on the win.

I was also wondering why Slavey sat for that critical 4 minute period. She wasn't in foul trouble and had been on fire. With her hitting the 3's that opened things up on the inside. I don't understand it either.

Observing the stat sheet from the game, I have noticed that half of W-V's twenty turnovers came from The Bearcat's post players, each with 5. Slavey had a nice line of 15 pts (5-7 FROM 3), 2 steals, 5 Assist and only 1 turnover.

The guard play was not the only reason for the lose. Walton missed multiple point blank layups - good teams don't do that. Too many turnovers, but everybody contributed to that. Once again Walton is able to beat the press and fails to convert on the other end. I can only remember Walton turning the ball over 3 maybe 4 times in the back court. Walton seemed to play not to lose instead of finishing the game. I don't understand the Slavey move myself, or why you have your bigs on the lane with 8 seconds left, with the lead, instead of protecting the defensive basket, especially if you don't plan to foul on the miss. A lot of things went wrong tonight for Walton and Danville made them pay. Good job Danville.

People tend to only remember turnovers that lead to baskets for the other team. They sometimes forget the turnovers that take a basket away from their team.
