Most of the issues are of a personal nature and not to be aired out on a forum but I can tell you this he was not forced out, it was a family decision. Coach copley has several opportunities a little west from greenup county.

 

Coach copley didn't make his decision until very recently to resign from his coaching position one of the main reasons he did was to give the program a chance to put someone in place so the kids would know what direction the program was going.

 

I wish Coach Copley the best and I know Coach mullins will do the best he can with what he has to work with both from the community and the administration. The boosters are very supportive and Coach mullins will have a lot of support from that aspect of the program.

 

GCHS and the football program have been good to and for my son and that's what its all about, the kids...

I never met Coach Copley while he was at Pikeville, and I have no idea about his tenure at Greenup, but I did meet him at the finals and talked with him for a while upstairs between games on Sat. He seemed like a great guy and I enjoyed the visit. Based on that alone I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

I heard that Mike Davis the former coach at Grant County will be the new coach at Greenup County as soon as the posting window closes. Davis would be a good hire for Greenup and would do a great job.

Is he from there? What's his connection.

Let me clear it up right now, Mike Davis has not applied, will not apply and even though I grew up in Boyd County I will not be coming back to eastern Kentucky at this time. I love how rumors fly around on these message boards with no regards to the people they are talking about. I know of several good coaches that are applying but one of them is not me. I would hope this will put this bad rumor to rest before it goes any farther. I wish the kids, administration and the people of Greenup County the best of luck in finding a coach soon. It is very important not to wait around and get someone in place so they can get in and lay their stamp on things this spring. Greenup will be competing in a tough district and region so time is of the great importance in my opinion. Rasputin please check your sources, they are not true, Sportsfan08, I am from the area but I have not applied.

Good luck to GCHS on getting a new coach that will stay long enough to build a program the way he wants it. What I mean is to his varsity assistants informed and instructed on what he wants and expects from them and how he wants it done. Just the varsity and J.V. teams in line and working togethher is not enough, imo all jr. high's should be taught the same fundamentals in the way the varsity coach wants them taught. and not what some parent/jr. high coach thinks is right. I would also have them to run the same offense and defense that the varsity runs. What I am trying to say I guess is that all programs/teams imo should be set up and ran in the way the varsity head coach wants it. Should a school do this then kids moving up will be familiar with and have a good knowledge of what is expected of them when they reach the varsity level, this also makes the coach's job alot easier by not having to teach the kids his way of doing things and what fundamentals/drills that he runs. They will already have a good,basic knowledge of the system and what is expected.

Well said OR. If you want a successful program it has to start at the bottom and go all the way to the top. That is where many program fail.
