December 22, 201015 yr That's all fine and dandy, but that older generation has done a pretty good job of passing along their bigotry to their children and grandchildren. I guess it depends on where you live. I would say in many, no make that most, areas they've done a poor job of passing along their bigotry. Shoot, I see a huge difference between my oldest brother's age group and my youngest sister's. That's a span of about 20 years.
December 22, 201015 yr Discrimination because of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, etc. has been around long before the U.S. was even a country... It was not invented here.. I believe our country has made better strides in tolerance than most other countries around the world..

There have been wrongs, but we have worked to be better. It is not yet perfect, nor do I believe it will ever be perfect. While some parents have handed down their bigotry to their children, there are many who have tossed aside that bigotry and are working for a better society. Once again, I have not suffered any form of bigotry, unless you count some looking down their noses at Kentuckians, but I have worked at forgiving some who I believed who did me wrong. It is tough. In some cases it has taken years to get over a situation. In some cases I just try to avoid the person in question, hoping not to allow old wounds to fester.

"IMO there are still many who are OK with the improvements but are tired of hearing when there are still issues and want to throw up their hands and say "C'mom, it's a lot better than it used to be. Quit your crying." IMO those people are plentiful regardless of which ticket they tend to pull the lever for in the voting booth. "

Secondly, do we simply excuse today's problems simply because they're not as bad as they were in the 60s? I'm struggling to ascertain the point you're trying to make.
