Are the road crews in NKY on strike? There was absolutley nothing done to the roads last night. I left my house around 5 this morning. Looked like there was about 3 or 4 inches on the ground. No bid deal. Right? Hit the interstates and felt like I was on the ski slopes. Whats the deal? Saw no snow removal equipment from Ft. Thomas to Mineola Pk. on either 471 or 275. Inexcusable to have such a minimal amount of snowfall not taken care of on the main roads. I hate to think what rush hour looked like.:scared:

I passed 5 OH Dept of Highways salt trucks on my drive up 75N to Galbraith...not one of them had their plow blade down. I don't get it... :idunno:

Some dumb lady in front of my thought it would be a great idea to go as slow as possible up Columbia Parkway exit ramp, obviously no one made it to the top resulting in a mess and turning around going down the hill the opposite way.

Saw that too. Yeah...it didn't look like that was going to be much fun for the folks behind her.

I drove from Campbell County to Boone County last night around midnight. The storm had started about 20 minutes before I left. The roads were HORRIBLE. I could not see the lanes on the expressway. There were a few cars out, but absolutely ZERO salt trucks or anything of that nature. I'm not a bit surprised that the roads are in such horrible shape.

 

I slid right through a stop light last night. Fortunately, I was turning right at the light. There was actually a car coming through the intersection. He had a green light, but fortunately he was going slow. I was not speeding, just couldn't stop. Luckily the other driver was attentive & I was able to direct my car (a little bit) to the right side & off of the road.

I was thinking about that. I can't remember the last time we had much if any snow accumulation previous to Christmas. This year, all signs are pointing to a "white Christmas". I guess that could be nice, for a change...supposing the highway department has gotten the roads cleared by then.

It was a good thing not many people were going that way. That would have been a real mess.

Northern Kentucky roads

Across Northern Kentucky, state road crews also worked through the night plowing and salting highways and secondary routes, said Nancy Wood, spokeswoman for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 6 region, which covers Northern Kentucky.

 

A total of 123 trucks are out clearing 4,500 lane miles district-wide. Five trucks alone are working to ensure the steep Cut-in-the-Hill is clear for the morning commute, she said.

 

“They’ve treated each route at least two or three times,” she said. “With this kind of snow, where it keeps coming down, it’s just a continuous process. Some of our southern counties like Owen and Pendleton have seen some sleet.”

 

It would be best if motorists could wait until daylight hits to venture out, she warned.

 

“It’s just going to be a slow go,” she said. “If people could just delay their commute until our crews can have better visibility of what they are doing, it would help make the situation a lot better. Right now the roadways are covered, so it’s hard to even see markings. You might see some tire paths but to know you are in the lane or how far off the side of the road you are is a bit of an issue because of the intensity of the snow.”

 

The good news, she said, is that so far the snow is fine and wet: “It will be easier for our snow plows to push and treat.”

 

Man up people, budget problems have hit everywhere.

Each truck would be accountable for about 36 miles of road and that's not taking away the 4 extra working on the Cut in the hill which has been a disaster.

The crews have to wait until they have better visibility? Do they not have headlights?

 

I understand that the snow was coming down faster than the crews could work, but it's not like the storm caught anyone off guard. The roads should have been pre-treated. I drove across 3 counties last night shortly after midnight. Granted, every truck could have been elsewhere, but I did not see a single truck or treated road.
