Covington Catholic 63 Cincinnati St. Xavier 56

Featured Replies

Far too many TO's for the Colonels tonight but they pull out the "W" over the seventh ranked Cincinnati Division 1 Basketball team St. Xavier.

Anytime you beat a Big GCL team in any sport, you have to be happy.

Thelen had a double, double with 21 points and 16 rebounds followed by Conner Cleves with 13 points.

BTW it was no fun driving home after the game on I-275 in Campbell County but once I got into Kenton and then into Boone there was no problem at all on the roads!

I watched some on ihigh and Cov CAth looked pretty good but St. X looked awful until the last 4 minutes of the game. They should have been pressuring like that the entire game and forcing turnovers.

Thelen had his way and the Cleves kid had double digits looking pretty good. Baker, Connoly and Thelen will be a tough frontcourt for any team to compete with. Maschinot is quick but still a question mark at PG. If the Colonels can get their guards playing better by Tourney time they can make a run.

Nice win for the Colonels in an empty gym.

While it might have been a empty gym, CovCath easily had the largest and loudest student body in attendance this entire weekend.

My guess is the Crazies had around a hundred students who were were camouflaged in Red tonight! Why Red I asked a senior Crazy and the answer I got was that they knew St. Xavier would be in Blue so..... Then again, other than the St. Xavier players, I didn't notice a single Bomber student attending the game!

Gentlemen you were outstanding again :notworthy: but Mr Hartman still excepts each and everyone of you in class on Monday morning and I would think Mr. Rowe would want you to keep those calendars at home! :sssh:

I have to give the young man some credit. He has had two nice games in a row. He is showing the confidence that the team needs. He has made some nice outside shots, made some good drives, and has made some good passes. Yes, he has been involved in some TO's but they seem to come when the whole team is bitten by the TO bug. Witness the seven straight TO's in the 4th tonight. I think everyone had a part in that.

The big thing I see is that the team needs to keep the intensity up for four full quarters.

Our seniors need to get it though their heads and through the heads of all the members of the team, that the game isn't over, until the end of the 4th quarter and then only after the Buzzer goes off and the clock reads 0.00 on the scoreboard!

Maschinot indeed had an outstanding first half but in the 2nd half and especially near the end of the game when it seemed the stripes let the game get a little out of hand, he had far too many TO's. It's early in the season and I trust #13 will get more and more comtofable in running the offense as the season progressives.

Well I guess the Crazies pleading with Mr. Hartman worked a little:

Per WXIX Channel 19 news, Covington Catholic has a 90 minute delay on Monday Morning.

COVINGTON CATHOLIC 90 Min Delay ----

Sorry to say Colonel Crazies but back in the day when we had to walk up hill both ways to CovCath, and in feet of snow not inches, with the temps well below below zero and that was before we had even heard of wind chill, the good Brothers of Mary (Marist Brothers) never closed the school! :idunno: :D

Big win for CCH tonight. It will be interesting to see how good this team can get. Wouldn't be surprised to see this team win region.

Great shots as per usual paNDA. I especially loved the one with Mr. Hartman, holding the Calendars!

He doesn't.

I'd say it's hit or miss. He's never gotten me out of any detentions for my sense of humor...:irked:

Having watched the game on IHigh and it being the first time I've watched CCH this year I was pleased with Conner's play. I thought he was outstanding in the first half with his aggressive play/ie pushing the ball and attacking the rim. With the frontline of this team I don't care if Conner's shots go in. If he can penetrate and draw a defender who is trying to block his shot that's going to leave one of the long-armed boys all alone for the putback which we saw tonight. Just get a shot up .

In the second half I think the entire team got lazy when they p ushed the lead to 16 or so. The entire team struggled late against the press.

I'm not exaggerating when I say my boys that play early morning old man basketball could outshoot X. That was pathetic.

Their ball movement was good and gave CCH problems but they killed themselves with their inability to shoot.
