The win is surprising or the margin of victory?

Not surprised at the win by WV...they were supposed to win, after all...but a little surprised they held Owen to so low a score.

 

I think Walton-Verona's biggest question mark remains how they handle pressure - which, I understand, they struggled with against Boone. But Owen historically hasn't been a big pressing team and probably wasn't the best-suited to exploit that weakness.

 

Certainly too early to judge either of these two teams. Owen is well-coached, and has one of the best shooters I've ever seen come through the 8th in Rianna Gayheart. As her supporting cast evolves - and Hannah Neely looks like she may give the Lady Rebs a real nasty 1-2 punch - the Lady Rebels will be harder and harder to stop. Owen was very impressive in scoring over 70 points vs. Grant and Williamstown...and while Grant and W-town may not be in the upper echelons of the region this year, it's still worthwhile to note, because Owen never reached 60 points in any game last year.

 

Walton-Verona still looks like one of the top 3 teams in the region, IMO. Upcoming games against SK, South Oldham, and other teams that like to press will tell us a lot about the off-season improvements for the Lady Bearcats. No doubt that Dixon is one of the premier - if not THE premier - inside player in the region.

 

It's a marathon, not a sprint...but congrats to the Lady Cats on an impressive win against a quality opponent! And for the Lady Rebels - good luck Friday at home against District foe Carroll County!

I agree on this one. I thought Walton looked very good and looked like a different team when Taulbee was out front. I haven't seen much of the Judy girl in the past but she is a player. Dixon has been solid everytime I have seen her also. With Judy and Dixon inside and the luxury of having Sandlin as a adequate sub for either one of them Walton is deeper than I thought.

The team would be even stronger with Sandlin starting. Not sure why she is not. I heard she has been sick. Hope she gets better soon.

With WV you are able to start a varity of different players on any given night to give them an advantage in any game. You have 4 guards that you could start at any given night (Clinkenbeard, Ginn, Slavey and Taulbee) and 3 bigs (Dixon, Judy and Sandlin). Then you have quality subs coming off the bench with Mullikin w/guards and Hoffa w/bigs.
