I can say that this season was a disappointment to me. With the SEC east down this year I honestly thought UK could go 9-3 or 10-2. However in hindsight I have no idea why I thought this. UK is not a football school and until more money is invested in the program they will not be a football school. This was a rare year that the SEC was down, it may not be that way for a long time. UK fans prepare for wins over MAC and sun belt and Vandy. UK is still in the cellar.

UK has a lo-o-o-o-o-ong way to go before they are considered anything but a low tier football school. Basketball reigns supreme -----always has and probably always will. 6-6 is nothing to write home about. Joker didn't do the amazing this year. Special Teams was supposed to be the reason we had a not so stellar season last year. So he fired Ortmayer and brought in Nord -----it was a mistake Special Teams were worse than ever. What goes 'round come 'round and Ortmayer should not have been let go at least not the way it happened. He was kept on long enough so that he was unable to find another job. That is low if you ask me. You can say what you want but Ortmayer knew what he was doing. Thus, UK is what UK is and that is not very good.

6-6 cannot make for a happy fan base. Moral victory? Have fun with that. All this "Bowl" does for UK is give them a chance to have a losing season. It's like giving every kid that participates a trophy at the end of the season. Makes the trophy not mean very much. After the top 6 or 7 bowls they are not worth watching.

You've hit on the key point. If you come into a bowl game with the chance of leaving the bowl game with a losing record you have NOT had a good season unless you're coming off a a 2 or 3 win season.

Regarding the "almost" wins... I understand that we should not be satisfied with them. But how can you not see them as better then being blown out like we have in the past? At least we are competitive now. I know that's not anything to celebrate, but it is taking a step further. You have to be able to play with teams before you can make the jump to beating them consistently. I think the close wins are good for the program, not as a moral victory... But because they mean we are one step closer. The key is to not stay stagnant at being competitive. I am not happy with a 6-6 season, and I never will be. But, I recognize the fact that some of the losses were games we very easily could have (and probably should have) won. This was definitely not the case in the not-so-distant past. Now it's time to continue improving, and those close losses will become close wins. Then we're sitting at 8-4 or 9-3. We've taken great strides. Now it's time to take the one that really matters.

 

Me too. People on here want miracles and turn arounds like what Mullen has done at MSU. That wouldn't be good for the future of UK football IMO, because what happens when that coach leaves. Look at the season that UC had last year and then compare it to this season. BK was a miracle worker, and while I think Jones is going to be a good coach he has to build the program to actually be able to sustain that success. 6-6 may be boring now, but it is laying the foundations for the future. Everyone can see that UK plays winning football and is a tough out in the SEC, a conference that is the toughest in America and where most teams have twice as much talent (a recruiting base) to work with then UK does.

 

6-6 makes UK a more likely destination for recruits from Non-UK pipelines, and will make a possible big season or two easier to come by in the future. Look how long its took for Spurrier to have success at USC, and we're talking about a college coaching legend in Suprrier and a team in a much more fertile part of the country for recruiting. People look at the success of other similar programs across the country and wonder "why not us"? I think UK is trying to build something for the long term, way past when Dan Mullen is at Florida, Harbaugh is in the NFL, etc. What more do you people want from this UK team? They were not very talented this season, I think it was the worst defense in at least 5 or 6 years here and the offense didn't start to come around until mid-way through the season.

6-6 is imo a losing season, you didn't win more than you lost and a 6-6 team winning a bowl they shouldn't be in is not impressive to me at all.

I agree with your all getting a trophy point as well. That is all of this "don't hurt their little feelings" thinking :rolleyes. Kids wil get past it just fine(it's the parents that have trouble with it) and it will teach the kids that they need to learn to work harder to actually earn a trophy. This all get a trophy stuff imo is teaching that winning doesn't matter and losinng is just as good:rolleyes:.

I will support/have no problem with giving all the T-Ball kids and the 1st grade flag football though. :thumb:

 

 

 

 

 

Kentucky is a better team this year than what their W-L record shows. The way they started so many games getting down early ultimately sealed their fate in most of those shoulda been wins. But, should have been and could have been doesn't count and ultimately leads to Kentucky being the same mediocre team they have been. Don't get me wrong, by making a 5th straight bowl game, Kentucky fans are fortunate to see a team in football that can actually compete and make it to bowls. However, there comes a time when you have to improve upon your last improvement.

As for the bolded......1. No they were'nt better than 6-6 or the record would have been better. Excuses to make people feel betterv about losing don't cut it imo, it means a person accepts losing. 2. :thumb: 3. The lst comment is htting it right on the head, UK HAS TO improve or be satisfied with losing to mediocre at best.

Making a bowl every year at 6-6, or 7-6 isn't cutting it, where is the improvement? It doesn't mean as much these days when 50% of teams are making it to bowls, as I said 10 years ago and beyond it may be a big deal, but the only reason they make the bowls now is there are so many of them!

If your not growing your dying. I guess it all depends on where you want to see the go. If 6-6 is good enough for you (with 3 of those wins against crap teams) and you are pleased with being mediocre then I guess UK has arrived. As for me I would like to see them actually contend for the east title.

Success, coverage, and the ability to put players in the NFL are the prime points in recruiting a player. UK gets fairly good coverage being apart of the SEC-ESPN deal as well as all the local and SEC Networks but 6-6 is not a successful season regardless of how you twist it. We have some players in the NFL but not a plethra like some of the other SEC schools do. It may help but it will be very little.
