Class 1A Coach of the Year

Featured Replies

I am pretty sure your original post insinuates that he came in and turned a 2-8 team to what it was this year. He was in charge in 2009, just making sure facts are straight Watusi. You of all people should understand that. Nobody said they didn't have a good year but their schedule was soft (don't care how long they have been playing).. You all put waaaay too much stock in the fact that the program is young, there have always been decent athletes in Walton and it was about time they added football. Wouldn't have mattered who the head coach was out there, they would have been successful with the talent that was coming up.

The coach mattered on the 7th. and 8th. grade level this year. Ton's of talent but the wrong leader through half of the season. It wasn't until they got rid of said leader and brought in Coach McMillan that the team began to win. Talent doesn't do everything as you could see with Walton's middles school team this year.

Nice false statement.. Not turning this thread into a Walton MS football thread.. But I do believe the team was only 3 games into the season and were 1-2 with losses to NewCath and Newport both very nice MS teams last year... So your comment does not have much validity except that you may not care for the previous coach very much... Also, the previous coach took the MS team to the MS playoffs the previous year, which was his first season as a head coach at any level, and Walton's first year in the league.. sounds like a pretty good job to me.. Ask McMillen about him and see what he has to say considering he was on McMillen's HS staff for two years... My final statement on that topic. These coaches don't deserve this nonsense during a discussion about VARSITY coach of the year..

I got to give it to

Betsy Layne's Head Football Coach Jonathan Parsons

They won more games this year than EVER in one season(7-4).

Hosted first ever playoff game, lost a very respectable game. This program has been around for 30 years and many couldnt win there and he has done an amazing job especially this year. They have been to the playoffs twice in schools history with this year being one of the two.

On a side note, he coaches the 3rd and 4th grade team.

First of all no disrespect intended, but with a cup cake schedule like they had & losing that 1st ever home playoff game to a team that hadnt won a playoff game in 20 plus years i would have to disagree.

Cup Cake Schedule? I am almost sure Betsy Layne has been the cup cake for the past 30 or 35 years. Come on, Blackcat I know you should give respect to him. The blackcats Coach Derossett was at Betsy Layne and didnt have as much success as Parsons.
