Ft. Campbell's Misaafelua commits to UofL

Micah Johnson will have competiton for a spot on UK's football team if Travis Whitley from Harrison County commits to UK this kid is unbelievable and his 40 time is 4.7 and I think he will give Michah all he wants Coach Graham has worked hard with this kid

Way to set up a kid for unnecessary scrutiny. You're telling us that a walk-on will "challenge" one of the top defensive players in the COUNTRY?

Good luck to the young man.

Read in the C-J this morning where he has changed his mind and is headed to Western Kentucky instead.

I think I read somewhere that UL wanted him to grayshirt and that pushed him towards WKU.

You are correct.

Good luck to the young man! WKU is a fine school, and a really great football opportunity, not to mention closer to home for him.

I read where WKY also picked up Blake Boyd from the Cards, who was redshirted last season. Blake Boyd will have an immediate impact for the hilltoppers.

Boyd got a little squeezed out. We've probably had more consistant success recruiting on the D-line than any other position besides QB (which is of course our golden standard. :D )

I am sure that most everyone on BGP has, at many times, scratched their heads in amazment at the recruiting (lack of recruiting) process that goes on here locally. MANY in state players left out to dry and fend for themselves. Many would be shocked at the amount of interest shown to some of the top recruits by our local universities. I think UK does a better job of showing interest in the local talent and good old WKU seems to benefit from the lack of interest shown by UofL. I talked with a former coach yesterday that told me his son ( a well known senior ) is getting very little interest from the D1 schools. This is not a shock as this has been going on for years. A product of Kentucky being known as a "basketball" state. A few big years when there were many talented seniors ready to go to college and still not much action from local schools to recruit them. Nothing bothers me more when you see our local universities signing 2nd, 3rd, & 4th best prospects from Florida, Georgia, UTAH(?) when a blue chipper in state goes to IU or Michigan or NC State. I know a lot of people will respond that the 3rd, 4th best players in FL and GA are that much better but that is yet to be proven. Also, why do we offer these troubled recruits chance after chance and a good kid never even gets one shot. There used to be a time when a recruiter actually asked, "what kind of kid is this recruit?' " Is this kid coachable, dedicated, and a hard worker?" "If I had a daughter would this kid be the kind of person I would let her date?" This is the time of year I think about these things, the fall football season is when I start thinling about the local talent playing out of state.

This is a good point, however winning football games is the objective for college coaches (and even for high school coaches). If you don't win you get fired and you have to have good players to win. Too many of the dedicated, hardworking, marginally athletic types will always get beat by those that have very talented , hardworking, athletic teams that may come with a little baggage. You can't have an entire team full of "thugs", but you can't have a team full of those marginally athletic, coachable, dedicated, hard working kids either.

That's funny you say that about the qbs. I thought just the opposite. Yes, you have a stud but after that you have nothing but walk-ons. I would think a scholarship type qb would want to come to UL to play in a high-scoring offense. I guess B Brohm has scared some off.

Rather than deal in generalities, give us specifics on what players have been neglected by the in-state schools and gone on to other big-time schools.

I'm struggling.

I didn't know Boyd had left the Cards. But Western Kentucky is a good place to go and they have had a solid program. U of L has had an outstanding year recruiting. It could even get a litttle better in the next week or two. The Cards still have a shot at a couple of other big time players. The comment about the quarterback situation has not been well thought out. Ragone did not come highly rated to U of L, and Leflors was virtually unknown and fell into the Cards lap. Two pretty decent quarterbacks now on NFL rosters. Brohm will most likely have to play at least two more years now with the knee injury he just had fixed. Cantwell has proven he can play and still has a lot of upside. I would think a good prospect or two will take a look at the Cards and their high octane offense. They have reloaded with nice receivers and big, athletic lineman and should be pretty decent in years to come.

But Boyd was an LB there...just like he'll be at WKU. It's probably hard to stay at a program when the coach publicly says..."I'm staying in the college ranks atleast one more year."

OK but they have been to a bowl game seven straight years with two different coaches. The next one will be just as good - maybe better!

OK, not a huge U of L fan here but I think the Cards have fared very well with in-state players. They do it the right way - take the best ones they can get and then get the rest of their roster filled with kids from Florida, Georgia, Ohio, wherever. I LOVE high school football in Kentucky but we all must admit the second, third and probably farther down the list in Florida is more often than not going to be better than what we have in Kentucky. It's just a fact.
