November 16, 201015 yr Went to the unveiling of the newly called CFSB Center on Murray State's campus last night to see an ugly basketball game. The Racers defeated ETSU 50-39. One thing I always do agree with Dick Vitale about is the inability for teams to adjust to a zone early in the season. ETSU stayed in a 1-2-2 all night and kept Murray State passing the ball along the perimeter. Good news is Murray State's defense was relentless, which was not a big shock. Anyone that watched them last season knew first and foremost they were a defensive team. They are not very big and I look for them to struggle more than last season. MSU plays at Ole Miss this Wednesday night. Next week travel to Anaheim for the 76 Classic against some good foes.
November 17, 201015 yr Author I look for them to be the class of the OVC again this year, Go Racers! Hopefully so. The gap between them and Morehead State is not very much, despite being the favorites. They are going to miss Tony Easley's presence on the interior. Ivan Aska is either feast or famine and the Racers equivalent of Darius Miller with his Jeckyl and Hyde routine. If Shawn Jackson can progress (#31 ranked Center by ESPN last season), they will be tough to beat. With the exception of teams with elite talent, I would put Murray State's backcourt and depth at the guard position up against anyone in America. Isiah Canaan is ready to make a splash.
November 18, 201015 yr Author Aska was famine, as I expected, as he picked up his 3rd foul before the midway point of the first half when the Racers were up 12-6. Ole Miss finished the first half on a 28-11 run and manhandled Murray State on the interior the rest of the game. Murray State's other frontcourt starter, Jeff McClain picked up his second with considerable time left in the first half and Murray had no shot. Some no-name team this Saturday before returning on ESPNU next Thursday night to tip off the 76 Classic against Stanford.
November 18, 201015 yr Murray State really impressed me last night. Their guards hit some big 3's all night or this game would have been much worse. Ole Miss gave up a few too many fast break layups for my liking, but it's early in the year. I was very impressed with how many Murray State fans made the trip down as well.
November 18, 201015 yr Morehead State plays at UNC-Wilmington tonight and then at Florida this weekend.
November 22, 201015 yr Morehead took #9 Florida right down to the wire this afternoon, losing by six. They were down 17 at the half after shooting under 30% in the 1st half, but came out and outplayed the Gators in the second half. Faried was a hoss, 20 points, 18 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots. They go to #3 Ohio State Tuesday.
November 26, 201015 yr Author The real MSU gets a victory yesterday over Stanford in the first round of the 76 Classic in Anaheim. The Racers controlled the tempo and out rebounded the Cardinal despite being undersized at every position. Stanford hit a 3 as time was expiring to make the victory only 3 points, but the Racers were up 8-12 points virtually all game. They take on UNLV tonight.
November 26, 201015 yr When I saw that matchup I told a buddy they'd win. Should be fun to watch them play on TV, is Jasper playing or is he hurt again? or did he finally run out of eligibilty?
November 26, 201015 yr Author When I saw that matchup I told a buddy they'd win. Should be fun to watch them play on TV, is Jasper playing or is he hurt again? or did he finally run out of eligibilty? I did not watch much of the Tulsa/UNLV game, but I did see Jasper. This will be a tough match for the Racers... Not sure about a victory in this one. Butler went 1-2 in the 76 Classic last season.

January 7, 201115 yr Author Big game tomorrow as the conference's biggest rivalry takes place between Murray State and Austin Peay. Game will be televised on ESPNU. Murray State beat Tennessee State last night by 11, but were up 23 mid-way through the second before putting it on cruise control. They are still not explosive like last season and lack a true leader. Edited January 7, 201115 yr by bugatti
