I'll preface my statement that I really don't care one way or the other as to whether they legalize pot.

With regard to #1, I don't think that it would solve the problem of the Mexican drug cartels. They will just move on to something else, it's not like they are going to go get a 9 to 5.

With regard to #6, kids will still be able to get pot, just as they do cigarettes and alcohol.

If this passes will anyone that wants to be able to grow it? If so then I can't imagine there will be many who will not grow their own and buy it from someone else. If that is the case I don't see where this will generate much in taxes.

I see what you are saying but the same could be true of tobacco now. Unless I'm incorrect nothing stops smokers from buying raw tobacco off of farmers now. I think you'd see it become a convenience thing.

As a former user and current health care professional I can state those ten reasons are pure gargabe. Not going to take the time to refute each point. The view points are so warped , don't understand how logical people can think because you legalize a product that it's negatives go away. Bottom line is the rule of law is being walked on.

How are they warped?

^Since when did being a health care professional mean knowing about the Mexican Drug Cartels? Or about increased reveunes through taxation? Or lowering prison costs?

Pot smokers are lazy.

I partially agree with you on #1...though I'm not well versed in the workings of Mexican drug cartels.

I vehemently disagree on #6. While they will still be able to get it...it's much harder to get it than if it was legal. I grew up in a dry county and the local bootlegger didn't card at all. However the liquor stores a county over did. Also, it just took a trip to the local pool hall to get a joint...in fact it was much easier to obtain than a beer if one was inclined to do so. With regulations marijuana legalization would greatly decrease the ease of underage people obtaining it. Would it still happen...of course, but it would be a heck of a lot harder I'm sure.

There will be a large market for people who either only grow a little, don't grow at all, or would rather have different options available to them. It's pretty naive to think that taxes would not be generated from this. The time and effort in raising marijuana and brewing your own beer for example are pretty similar.

It's not the same. Have you ever tried to smoke tobacoo straight out to the barn?

Your missing my point. If I live in Cali why would I pay a higher price for it when I can throw a couple of plants on the deck or fire escape and grow my own. I am not saying some wouldn't buy from growers but I think it's really naive to think there will be large percentage of users that will not grow their own.

Not everyone is able to grow their own for various reasons. Some don't want that much pot & would rather have a smaller amount. I drink plenty of beer, but have never brewed my own. I know a ton of cigarette smokers, and have only seen one person roll his own cigarette. Plus, if I grow my own marijuana, it may not be as high quality as what the convenience store is selling.

Even if the tax revenues are not significant (which I think it will be), legalizing marijuana would DECREASE other costs associated with law enforcement and prisons.

Why aren't more people making their own wine? People are lazy and the market for marijuana sales would be HUGE. Plus, just throwing some plants on your deck or fire escape isn't going to get the quality of weed that professional growers could get....not even close. You will see people growing it, some because they need a cheap way to get it and others would do it as a hobby similar to homebrewing. But to think there won't be a large market for it is silly.

My original post was more for a topic of discussion. It was just something I was thinking about. I am playing more of devils advocate then anything. I think the tax revenue would huge from it.

Would this be treated similar to alcohol? Would you get a public intoxication if you were high walking around? Do you have to put a brown paper bag around it to smoke it in public?
