Scott beat Owen County and looked really good at times. If they continue to play solid defense and fill it up they can be a really solid team this year. There JV team looked really good as well. Coach Carr always puts good teams on the floor but he may be building something special for the coming years.

Doss is solid but keep in mind that Highlands is playing without 6'7 POY candidate, Jack Stewart.

 

I'm sure having him down low instead of a 6'5 15 yr old freshman would make a big difference.

Notes from the games that I watched today:

 

Beechwood had only 6 players dressed for the varsity game today.

 

St. Henry without having a football team should be close to season ready, compared to a lot of teams who are missing their football players.

 

St. Henry is Pressing, Pressing, and Pressing....

 

Beechwood is hitting their treys.

 

Considering St. Henry has a full team, not so impressed with them in the 1st half.

 

Beechwood has to few players and it is showing up in the second half.

 

St. Henry pressed the entire game. The Cru don't have much size this year but they do have a few quick guards who can shoot.

 

Oak Hills vs Pendelton County

 

Big difference in the size of PC and Oak. Oak seems much bigger than PC.

PC dressed 7 players for the game today.

PC is living by the trey today.

The PC coach is playing this game as it were the Finals of the sweet sixteen and some of the PC fans are screaming as it is too. Gee it is a scrimmage but the coach and fans seem to be upset with every call made.

#1 for PC is a very, very good player. When he is in PC is good but when he is out.........

This game took forever it seemed with the many Time out.

Dixie vs Walton Vernoa

 

Question that was asked of me but I don't know the answer: Pike was thrown out of the HHS vs Dixie football which was the last game of the football season for Dixie. Usually when a player is thrown out of a game he must sit the next game. If Pike must sit out a game would it be the first Basketball game this season, or the first football game next season?

 

Dixie today seemed unbeatable at times but them bored to death at times!

WV played and won the second half but Dixie played a lot of subs compared to what WV did.

 

Holy Cross vs Williamstown

Honesty one of the UGLIEST game that I have seen. HC won but still UGLY.

 

HG girls vs Walton girls.

 

It was a street fight and not a basketball game. Heck the boys team didn't want on the floor playing either one of these teams as they went right at each other and it wasn't pretty. If they counted personal fouls on the players they might not have been able to finish this game.

 

HC was without Beal who is out two more weeks another young lady who is out eight more weeks and lost another player to what seemed to be a knee injury.

 

WV has a some very good and strong players.

 

10 of HC and 21 of WV went after each other time after time and I truly was worried that punches just might be throw. Man they were in each other faces all evening long.

 

Got caught up in getting ready for the CovCath game and didn't see, watch close enough the other games!

 

On a side note: Hatton of Dixie seemed to be limping around the SK gym later in the evening. Not a big deal but he did seem to be limping a bit!

He is tough but he is about 4 yrs older than the kid he was matched up with(Nick True) and True the Frosh ran the floor well and scored nicely against Doss. Will be nice to have this 6'5 Frosh coming off the bench on the block for the Birds once they get Towles 6'5 and Stewart 6'7 in the lineup full time together.

I caught the end of the North Oldham / Cov Cath game and it was pretty close with NO up 5-6 most of the last 6 min of the game. Rowan is a beast and he takes up a lot of space. Thelen made a couple really nice passes when I watched. Listerman had his guys pressing and it was effective at times. I am not familiar with the players except Connelly and Thelen and only caught the last 6 min of the game but looked pretty competetive.

 

Highlands is extremely shorthanded right now but played pretty well against SK tonight. It was only a 2 pt game after 1st qtr and 7 of the 13 first qtr points came from Witte(soph) and True(Frosh). 2nd qtr was SK's best qtr as they fed the monster on the block Doss. He is automatic when he gets the ball on the block pretty much unless you get good strong helpside defense on him. #14 for SK (maybe Gray?) had a really nice game. He is a thin kid but has nice skills and gets to the rim well.

 

 

Scoring for Highlands was pretty much spread around amongst 3 Srs, 1 Jr , 2 sophs and True the Frosh. Crowley the SR probably led the Birds tonight with double digits. He has really become a nice slashing player and will be needed to add to the scoring this season. Mark this down, Nick True will be a dominating Center by the time he is a SR. Birds definitely could have used 6'5 230 lb QB Pat Towles and 6'7 POY Candidate Jack Stewart but Towles is busy working on a 4peat in football and Stew is resting his back.

 

Take away the 8 pt advantage in the 2nd qtr and its a pretty even game. Both coaches played a lot of kids and SK has some nice sophomores as well. I also should mention they missed Chambers their JR stud who is their leading returning scorer. Birds just needed more help on the post tonight however Nick True made a nice effort against the bigger and stronger Doss.

 

By Jan the Birds will have their full team and they will be much better and have more depth. Tonight they had to play the cards they were dealt and they had a respectable showing.
