Washington County 35 Bardstown 21

Featured Replies

Washington moves to 8-0. Should be strongly tested next week by Danville.

Listened to this one on the radio --

WC got off to a 14-0 lead. B'town rallies to tie it late in the second quarter, but after the KO was a touchback, Quan Turner took it 80 yards on the next play to make it 21-14 at the half.

WC added on to make it 28-14, but B'town cut it to 28-21 and it stayed that way until the final minute and change of the game, when the Tigers forced a 4th and about 4. WC faked the punt, however, and ends up scoring to ice it.

Tough break for B'town, but they played well against what I think is a pretty good WC team that has a chance to take down the Admirals next week if the Commanders play as well as I think they can.

Sorry 'bout that, Pappy. Didn't even see this one. Can we merge with mine?

First Commander victory over Bardstown since 1992?

Wow. I thought that they had beaten them in 1995 when WC started out 11-0. Congrats tough game next week. I don't think that they have ever beat Danville.

I know, I know. It sounds crazy, but I base that on having seen both teams. Obviously, Danville is the favorite, but WC does some things that I think can hurt Danville, and they have a lot more speed than any WC team I've seen.

From what I've been told, the Tigers ran 11 more offensive plays and had six more first downs than the Commanders, and because of time of possession advantage was able to keep the WC passing attack mostly in check. The Tigers had a couple turnovers deep in Commander territory to stop drives.

I don't think Danville will go into Springfield next week feeling a need to shorten the game the way Bardstown had to because of injuries at QB and WR, and as a result I look for the DHS-WC game to be a shootout, where anything can happen.

What happened to Bardstown? Thought they would be better than this

Injuries and the lack of consistent play on the line have turned this into a rough season for the Tigers.

Danville puts up 59 on Bardstown, and didn't let Bardstown shorten the game, which means Danville dominated Bardstown with defense. I am wandering why Washington County couldn't stop Bardstown from shortening the game? I think Danville could have scored as many points as they wanted on Bardstown, yet WC only scored 35.:idunno:

I think you might be referencing the 1997 team from Washington County that won the district and beat Monroe County in the first round before losing to Franklin-Simpson. Washington County had moved up from 1A to 2A in 1995 and were playing in a district with Bullitt East, Elizabethtown, Fort Knox, Hart County, Henry County, Larue County, and Taylor County.

Bardstown was still in 1A in a district with Campbellsville, Caverna, Green County, and Metcalfe County - basically the district Washington County left behind in 1994.

Having 3 more touchdowns called back by the officiating crew (that makes 6 in two games that crew has done, I can't remember any called back in any other games this year) makes a difference.
