October 13, 201015 yr Author BTW, I didn't take my dogs barking lightly, but I think the neighbor could have handled it a lot better... My EXACT thoughts. She never once came over and said anything before yesterday. Then all of the sudden she came over and threatened my dogs life. HUGE difference.
October 13, 201015 yr First of all, I love dogs. Your neighbor may like to sleep with the bedroom window open. I would bring your dog in at night. We rented a house once and could not leave our bedroom window open due to a dog who would bark all night long. I have no idea where the dog lived. We have that problem right now, drives me insane.
October 13, 201015 yr I have a barkaholic. He's an indoor dog, but any time he hears a car door, people's voices outside, a dog collar jingling...he barks like crazy. Luckily my upstairs neighbor doesn't seem to mind. He also barks at the man next door like CRAZY! It's embarrassing! How do the bark collars work? Do they hurt the dog?

Sorry for all the questions. So, do people generally keep these collars on their dogs all the time? Or would it work to just have it on them as necessary? For instance, I WANT my dog to bark when I'm not home. So could I just use it when I'm home?

The collar will teach your dog not to nuisance bark when he is wearing the bark collar vs. stop your dog from barking only when it’s wearing the bark control collar.
October 14, 201015 yr Nuisances ordinances and court appearances and fines can apply. I had this experience once. I had an old dog who preferred to sleep outside, and I had a neighbor...who I didn't know...who came one evening in the middle of the night and laid on my doorbell. Stated he wanted me to be annoyed as he was because my dog was barking all night. Of course, I brought the dog in and from every night on after that. However, the guy must have slept with his window open because I could never hear it in my house. I agree, it's not his/her responsibility to close their own window. It's your responsibility to keep your dog quiet.

It was gladly fixed....just didn't know about the problem. How do you fix problems you don't know about??? Sorry, must never happen. However, I would NEVER go to a stranger's house and lay on the doorbell or bang on the door in the middle of the night unless it was an emergency...such as the house on fire. And you know what, I would close the window for that night, sleep on it and let the neighbor know at a civil time. Clearly you would not. Do you get it now?
October 14, 201015 yr I've got a problem. I have a 2 year old Black Lab mix. He's a great dog. Really good with people, kids, and super high spirit. He's an outdoor dog so he's fenced in, and sleeps in his igloo.The only problem is when other animals enter our yard, or come around are yard he goes nuts. Especially at night. He doesn't bark all night, but he'll bark for ten minutes at a time or so. Loud barks, ones that have woken me up at night. Well I have a neighbor who is... Crazy... That's the nicest way I can put it. She comes over today and says "you need to get that dog to be quiet at night or I'm going to quiet it myself". Well I'm ticked off.. So here are my questions to BGP. I've looked online and I can't find anything specific. In Kentucky, specifically Independence is there any law about keeping my dog quiet at night? Secondly, if she did anything to my dog what should I do? Because if anything happens to that dog I'd flip a lid. One of my good friends is an Independence cop, if she does anything to your dog I can bring it to his attention. A barking collar is probably a good idea to avoid any conflict with her.
October 14, 201015 yr Here's a real pet peeve of mine, that may be affecting this situation. Of course there are dog laws. Everyone understands the reasoning behind them. But why in the HECK are cats allowed to roam freely? It's the single biggest cause of barking at night by my dog. The next door neighbor has 6 cats that are completely uncontained. They hang out in my back yard. The only way to keep my dog from noticing them is to keep the big back door closed, and frankly, I'm cheap. If the weather's nice, I want to keep my doors and windows open. Not only are there those six cats, but about 20 or more others that seem to think my back yard is their party pad. It's ridiculous! It's nothing to walk out the back door and see cats scurrying in every direction, including up the trees, the side of the house and onto the window sills. In addition, there are a couple of really (for the sake of avoiding a word filter violation) evil cats that like to sit on my front porch at night and taunt my dog through the french doors. No matter how much he barks, they sit there staring at him, then walk up to the door and put their faces up to it. AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!! I HATE CATS!
