Boone's style will not change until they have a new head coach. He still follows the Owen Hauck school of offense, which is good enough to be respectable most years, and make the play-offs, but not good enough to beat the best teams. Even when Alexander played, they were too one-dimensional and predictable to win the state championship.

 

Everybody makes the playoffs, or so it seems. No big deal there.

I don't think you know much about these quarterbacks. Although Thompson isn't perfect he throws better than the sophomore and runs much better than Schwartz. Thompson escaped pressure a lot of times because he can run! Plus in the summer those other 2 had shots and he beat them both out! Now from what others tell me and from the Thompson kid himself, his dad played no role in choosing the QB. Freshman year there was the same problem for this class, Thompson beat out Schwartz and another kid, he won 3 and lost 1 then moved up to JV QB. After he left, the freshman team went 2-4. Other than the reverse pass on Friday Schwartz was put in some, and given the opportunity to throw a few times, he was sacked because he didn't get rid of the ball when soon enough, he had time to throw. Also everyone saying the kid cant run, have you ever watched him play? he runs hard and upfield, doesn't shy away from contact and delivers a blow. And one more time i'd say the 2 dropped touchdowns that Thompson threw are what beat them. The kid Thompson didn't lose this game and he didn't play bad either, he gets the job done and now the rest of the rebels need to do the same.

The line gives Thompson enough time to complete passes. He simply can't progress through reads because he can't see downfield well enough, and his ability to scramble is not the best either. Thompson is not a throwing QB, but then again Boone is not a throwing team. Last night receivers were wide open and the passes were not being thrown. Thompson has got the biggest target in NKY with a nice set of hands, and he can't see when he's wide open on the field. IMO the Rebels football program is in some serious trouble until some changes are made.

 

I agree with you, Boone program is in serious trouble. It's time for Thompson to pack his bags and move on. Boone may miss the playoffs this year, a loss by either Cooper of Conner and it's lights out.

I have had a few chances to watch all three QB's and it's not just my opinion alone that the other two provide a better run/pass threat and can catually locate their receivers in progression. If you watch the offense close enough, you will see that when he scrambles, he goes east or west and usually gets run down. His big runs come mainly on the QB draw, not when he's scrambling. If it's your opinion that Thompson is the best QB and you have a soph or junior kid in the program you're in for a long ride to nowhere. Thompson as an athlete can play many other positions on the field, but qb is not one of them IMO. A QB normally steps up in the pocket finds the open lane and can get up field north/ south. Your description of his strength and power runnung is for a fullback or guard. It doesn't really matter because it looks like Coach Thompson is going to stick with his QB decision just as he is sticking with his offensive mindset. It's just sad for the seniors that hoped to have a successful year and possibly get some good recognition from a winning program. Not to say the other qb's will gurantee a win, but IMO either one could make a difference in the offense, and begin to develope for the next two years they have with Boone. I think Boone lost a fairly decent athlete\receiver to the Ryle program because of the qb drama. How many kids can you run away?

Lehmkuhl left because his parents. Football was not involved, he started at Covcath because it's a private school. He hated it and went to Boone as his parents finished looking for a house. They saw Ryle as the closest thing to Covcath in the local Public schools. Lehmkuhl and Thompson lived 2 doors down for 12 years. I'm close with both Families, and from what the Thompson kid says he was chose by other coaches, not his father. Also Prayers go out to the Thompson family as Coach Thompson's mother is hospitalized after 2 strokes. They learned about this soon before the game. As for the Thompson kid, He hasn't done anything wrong on this team, He's managed the game and made plays when he had to. From what i heard the Ingolia gets a lot of throws on JV but Hasn't produced on that level, the first time the JV team scored was this past week. You obviously haven't watch Schwartz play at QB. Are you related to UKFan#1? I'm glad you stick by your perception of Thompson, but if you attend the games and sit in the stands or even stand around groups you will hear a completely different story. But you can continue to live in your illusion of Thompson being the best option for QB if that makes you happy it doesn't matter to me. Since you seem to be so close to the Thompson's, go over and watch the past game films with them and you can count the open receivers that he has missed and compare the yards gained to yards sacked from a scramble. I have nothing against the kid or his family, so no need to defend the family in that matter. It's plain as day that they need to make a change to most people so this is a dead horse.

"Thompson was chosen by other coaches not his father" Do you really think his father had no influence on whether his son is the qb for Boone County? If you really and truly believe that, WOW! Sure, anyone close to the situation will tell you that, because they don't want it to seem as if that's not the reason he is playing qb. I'm not sure there are too many 5'5 qbs around here. The JV qb will never be chosen to start over Thompson because his grandfather or uncle coaches the Jv team. How ironic is that?

I think with the loss to Campbell County, things need to be re-evaluated at Boone County. For a school that fancies themselves a football school-to fail to make the playoffs would be I think the final straw.

Agree with everything being said. Thompson IS the reason for Boone's struggles. Both of them. Little Thompson has zero work ethic from what I've heard. He does as he pleases and is treated like a son and not a football player at practice. As everyone says, life isn't fair. Which it's not. But for the seniors that work there hardest to leave the field after the Dixie game on Oct 29 with a good record and ready to compete in the playoffs, it's sad. Not fair to anyone on that team. Boone is a good team, no one will convince me otherwise. No one can convince me that they don't work as hard or harder than any team in Nky. And for a season to spoil over 2 people, it's just not fair. It's also not so much that Little Thompson has no ability to play Qb, it's the fact that he does not work as hard or even close to any player on that team. It's hard to respect your Qb and head coach when one is treated like God at practice and the coach is stuck on "Tradition" of Boone running the football. Time has passed and Boone isn't up to date with it yet, until they are. It's downhill.
