Many of these are obviously approximations or guesstimates (with every capacity-except two- ending with an even 100). I wonder what the margin for error is-----15% (?)------and who supplied this info to your source? Nonetheless, they are indeed interesting.

With most football in KY being outside I cannot see how they would not sell anyone a ticket.

True - but I'm guessing many are outdated. I wouldn't consider this list to be even remotely accurate. Can't imagine the ADs sweat that number too much. For example, Oldham County did a massive renovation of its antiquated football stadium 2 or 3 years ago, and I think it's definitely over 4,000 now. Eastern - which also re-did its stadium, using the same bleacher manufacturer, but did a much smaller version of Oldham's - is listed at 6,500.

 

If Eastern is, in fact, 6,500, then Oldham is at least 8,000+. If Oldham is 4,000, then Eastern is no more than 3,000. My bet is that both numbers are wrong.

 

Some of the estimates on the KHSAA site that I found interesting were Simon Kenton (only 1,200 for a 6A school in an urban county???) and Greenwood (1,275, also for a large school in an urban county???)

 

Central has a very nice stadium, even though it doesn't hold many...

 

I'm not surprised Southern's field is (slightly) larger than Male's... Southern has one of those old stadiums with long, long, LONG wooden bleachers that run nearly the length of the field on both sides.

 

I'm guesstimating that North Oldham's stadium (which opened two years ago and still isn't listed, just to emphasize my point about this list not being updated) at about 3,000.

The old home bleachers were small but I know they had to seat over 1K and the opposite side has to hold 500 or so. The new bleachers have to seat at least 2K if not more. Male had a nice stadium but is it really bigger than St. X's? I know the visitors side on Poplar is smallish but it's almost 100 yards long and five rows high. By far the most impressive structure I've been to, the restrooms are cozy and I love the free condiments they have.

Great information Ox. But, I know of many games at Raceland that had more then 2,500 people, I would have to say that is the number of seating in the bleachers, not standing room. It is common at Raceland to have more people standing then sitting.

I meant most have lots of standing room that would be almost impossible to judge how many could fit into those areas, I know there are no domes in KY high school football! HAHA. I do not think of any of the schools in Northeastern KY would stop selling tickets to a football game.

Yes, but whenever you have an enclosed area (a simple fence with gates will do...a dome is not needed), there are just so many bodies that can be accommodated whether they are sitting, standing, or both. It's back to the truism I mentioned earlier that you can only get so many sardines in a can. The numbers I have noted above for the various stadiums is supposed to be seating capacity only, and does not include standing room. It is this maximum combined number, and the criteria used to establish it, that I am trying to obtain.

 

Earlier in this thread Mayfieldsportsfan and jpa2825 said there were occasions at Mayfield and Highlands where they had to stop selling tickets and close the gates, but they didn't know what that sellout number was. That is the number I'm trying to find.

Is there a maximum amount, and who determines what that number is? Is it a legal ordinance, Fire Marshal rule, based on parking availability, or what governs the sellout limit?

The only answers I can give you is to contact the State Fire Commission and ask them. They are the only ones that can really answer this question.
