I thought the DVR's were 12 each. Could be because I'm a student, though.

I'm fairly certain I was being charged $15 each, but can't say I'm 100% positive.

Not sure what a "digital TV" is. I assume you mean an "HD TV"? Unless it has a digital tuner (and most TV's don't), you have to either have the HD DVR or the mini-box. The mini-box is pretty small, though I'm not entirely sure where you'd put it for a TV on the wall. I suppose it'll have to sit on top. Probably not what you want, but it won't be as horrific-looking as what you are probably thinking it will.

 

The little boxes are so little and lightweight that they're almost too hard place in a good spot. Mine just stays on my floor next to my TV.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered my mini boxes. They will be shipping them direct to me. No installer needed. Question ... will my picture improve on my HD TV? Some channels (like FSN 49) have a grainy look which is most noticeable when the Reds games are on. How about the picture on old non HD tube type TV's? Will I notice any difference on those old TV's?

Doesn't your remote need to "see" the box in order to change channels? Do you have to point your remote to the floor then? If not, then I'll move the one in our bedroom to the side of our dresser (up agaisnt a wall), but I've already noticed that I have to intentionally point the remote at the top of the TV where the mini-box is located.

It won't be high def, but I do believe the picture will improve slightly because you are going from an analog to a digital input. I don't think it'll improve on the old style TV's because those TV's aren't really capable of getting any better of a picture. But I will admit I'm not 100% certain on this. We still have two of the old style TV's and I can't say I've noticed any difference in their pictures.

Hooked up our mini boxes last night. Nothing worked. After running a automated telephone gauntlet, the live person (Peggy?) couldn't help us. A service tech is coming Fri. to check it out. The phone game was a joke.

A couple of things about this switch to digital that bothers me are: The box is permanent, it being free is not. Starting in 2013 Insight will charge .75 per month per mini box. I know it's not much, but I'm tired of them nickel and diming us to death. And this particular "upgrade" is really no upgrade for us (the consumers) at all as it's on our TV's that we really aren't concerned about having the best picture in the world on or we'd have an HD box already.

 

From what I've heard, the remotes provided are awful. Even on our (the consumers) worst TV's these will be a downgrade from what those sets currently have.

 

I thought there was a regulatory board that oversaw the cable franchisee in NKY, but I guess I'm either wrong, or that board is in Insight's pocket. It's funny when I watch my cable TV, I see lots and lots of commercials from Time Warner cable, offering all kinds of free stuff and other things to their consumers. Alas, I live 15 miles away, and I've never seen an offer of anything but the chance to pay more money from my cable provider.

I can tell you that the "regulatory board" which is the TBNK has been at odds with the cable provider many times. But one thing that hurts is counties and cities decide to pull out of the board.

 

Originally it was going to be Boone, Kenton and Campbell together, but Campbell decided to pull out almost from the beginning, then later cities, such as Erlanger, decide to pull out of the board. The cities have been pulling out as they do not want to pay a percentage of their cable franchise fees to run the board, the cities would rather work out a "deal" with the cable company and keep all of it, this makes the cities weaker Vs the cable company, as well as making the board weaker.
