September 14, 201016 yr Insight is requiring everyone to acquire "boxes" for every TV in the home not already hooked up to a cable box as it goes "digital". http://www.610upgrade.com/ It is confusing because it makes it sound like even flat screens with digital tuners built in needs them too.
September 14, 201016 yr We had ours switched out a couple weeks ago. About five of our TV's needed the box and the rest have the HD DVR's. The guy who installed ours gave us a piece of crap remote for each TV and stated that we'd have to use the TV's regular remore to turn it off and on and adjust the sound and their new remote to change the channels. When I found this out, I called up cable and told them to remove every box in the house, including the DVR's, as I was switching to satellite. Magically, they sent out another installer who programmed each of the new remotes to control the power, sound, and channels for each of the TV's. They also greatly cut my monthly bill, which was nice since 4 DVR's starts to add up quickly.

I was told by Insight that if you have the DVR service on a TV you will not need the box. I have DVR on one but not the other 3 so I'll need the boxes for those 3.
September 14, 201016 yr Holy cow! How many TVs do you have? I'm guessing at least 9 based on your post.

That's very poor on their part. Why did they cut their bill? We have 1 HD DVR tuner. Does this mean we'll need to get boxes on the remaining TV's?

September 14, 201016 yr Nevermind, I clicked on the link & see that it is a "mini box", not the DVR / Cable box that I anticipated.

We have 1 HD DVR tuner. Does this mean we'll need to get boxes on the remaining TV's? I guess we got a pretty lazy installer initially. We have 9 TV's, 4 of which are HD DVR's. Our monthly bill is/was fairly high and I was going to reduce it by a nice chunk by switching to satellite. When I called Insight to "vent" about the two remotes issue, I threw out there that I was on the verge of cancelling cable entirely (not an idle threat, I really was) due in part to their cost and the rep immediately cut my monthly bill by $30. Convinced me to stay. Those Union guys have some serious jack. Very clearly I am an exception to this rule.
September 14, 201016 yr ^I am sure they just gave you a "promotion" and your bill will be back to normal price shortly.
September 15, 201016 yr So if it's a digital tv, it's ok or it needs one too? What about a 5 year old plasma that hangs on the wall? Where am I supposed to connect a mini box on that? That will be real attractive attached to the wall!!!! It has a cable card, does that work?
September 15, 201016 yr ^I am sure they just gave you a "promotion" and your bill will be back to normal price shortly. Nope. Permanent reduction. There are two DVR's in my house now that we are not being charged anything (should be $15 each). Should they try to raise it again, I'm gone and they know it.

Unless it has a digital tuner (and most TV's don't), you have to either have the HD DVR or the mini-box. The mini-box is pretty small, though I'm not entirely sure where you'd put it for a TV on the wall. I suppose it'll have to sit on top. Probably not what you want, but it won't be as horrific-looking as what you are probably thinking it will.
