Final

I listened to a lot of this one on my way home from the Russell-Ashland game. It seemed to be a lot closer than the final score indicates. Greenup was up 33-27 at one point. What in the world happened? I would guess Greenup got the next score, put it out of reach, and a worn-down and demoralized Raceland team just quit. Is that how it went?

 

In any case, congratulations to Greenup. This is their year as far as the local teams go (other than Ashland of course). I hope Greenup fares well in their district this season. Raceland will be fine as the season progresses as well with some big challenges coming at the end of the season against Fairview, LCA, and Russell.

Don't mind losing 60-0 or 60-34. But don't want to really hear about class coming from anyone out of GC. I posted on another thread that I don't like running clocks, teams being told to take a knee on downs, punting on 2nd or third downs. Just put in your 2nd, 3rd and 4th string players when you know the other team doesn't have a chance to win. It shows class. When you leave your starters in for a player to gain over 325 yards to set a new school record. Or take your biggest and strongest lineman and put him in to run over a beaten down opp. to give him some love. Thats class. Then you are up by 30+ with just a few minutes left in the game and you do the same thing. Thats class. I seen the coaching staffs in the endzone talking after shaking hands. Doubt it was friendly.

Proud of the RAMS the first half. But we are way to young. And way to young on the line to compete for four quarters against a good senior line like Greenup Co's. I loved it when the GC players come running over to the RAM stands tearing down posters and shaking fist at the fans. Copley was watching. And kind of tried to get them back to where they should have been. Shows the class they have been tought. I never said anything after the Tomcats beat us to death. Why? Because they played everyone when they new the game was out of hand. Ashland could of beaten us by 75 if they wanted. LCA put it on us last year. I never said a word because both these teams showed class. But what goes around comes around. But you can count on this coaching staff to show class. They wont try to put linemen in the backfield and try to run over the opp. ect. ect. This coaching staff always backs off when the game is won. Can't wait till you get to go back to Bell Co. 4A vs 4A.!!

Yea, classless.....Copley is a wet behind the ears, a punk tearing down the Baldridge sign would be like our kids ripping down the Meenach sign. our kids and coaches have class.....would never happen. Lyle kid was the difference, besides being young and no depth. That Marsh kid got a takedown by a Ram, wicked throwdown

Could someone from Greenup Co please explain to me what went on the last quarter so I can feel better about this game. I was setting in the stands and watched the RAM coaching staff put in lots of reserves on defense. And thats when the starters stayed in for GC. And they run over the defense. Next series. Rams reserves on defense. GC leaves in two starting running backs and puts in the biggest and fastest and strongest lineman in the backfield so he could run over these reserves. And he did a good job. Two carries, about 60 yards with a TD. Then with about two minutes to play it happened again. WHY?? The game was already way out of hand. Just let me know what went on. Last week Lawrence Co beat someone by 60 points. But the starters only played 1 1/2 quarters. I know this game didn't get out of hand till the last quarter. But why rub a teams face in it. I don't understand. Is it so players can bust school records. Is it so linemen can score? And then let him try again. Oh by the way. I am glad the reserves got in for GC the last series of downs.

Are you saying the Rams put in their reserves and GC left their starters in and scored 3 more times?

If so, then why did the Rams throw in the towel and put in their reserves when they were down 39-34? (or 40-34, or 41-34 depending on XPs)

I guess you have to blame Copley for running the score up and for the behavior and lack or respect his players exhibited shaking their fists at Rams bleachers while signs were torn down . Tj would never allow this from our kids, if they went to the opposite side and removed a sign for a player who was killed earlier in the summer, let alone the rest. I stand by statement, Copley is a punk.

GC left starters in with game well in hand and scored about 30 in an 8 min stretch. Seems like with about 9 min to go it was something like 40-27 and Ram players who were undersized, young and most play on both sides of ball were spent....reserves put in and more after next GC td. But GC left starters in and with a min to go was running a 6'4 250 lb+ guy at freshmen..........don't blame the players but Copley is a novice and a punk.....period

Watusi the score doesn't bother me. I've been beaten by 60 points before by a superior team. And it was ok. Because when the game was out of had and we didn't have a chance to win the bench was cleared. But last night. That was different. When the second half started you could tell we just didn't have the strength in our legs to stop a much superior line and very hard nosed running backs. Greenup is good. They will wear you down. And thats how it should be. But to try and bury you and have fun with your team at the expense of the other team wasn't right. When Greenup came out and got the ball on the first series of downs. They drove it down our throats. Thats great. Then it happened again and again. We didn't have a chance to do anything. Our kids had a rough time getting on and off the field they were so tired. Greenup physically put it on us. We have so many that have to go both ways. Everyone on both sides of the field new about five minutes into the second half this game was over. We were tired. Not out of shape. But beaten by a much older, stronger and better team. But they kept Lyle in the game up till about two minutes left in the game so he could break a school rushing record. And before that they were putting in a huge starting tackle/defenseive end to run over our reserves. After he bulled over our defense on two carries for about 60 yards and a td with the game way out of hand. At that point I had a problem. Then they did it again. Giving him another chance with just a few minutes left in the game and up by 30+ points. We didn't score that last td till about :50 left in the game. We had our CLEAN white uniforms on the field. You can tell when the reserves went in. The score was never 39-34. Maybe 39-27 early in the second half. But thats ok. We should have played better and above our abilities. They should know what its like to get beat down. Guess they just wanted to dish a little of it out. But all will be ok. Always next year!

As an objective reader with no affiliation with either team, I feel your pain, but it sounds like a scheduling problem from here.

The way your first post read, I thought you guys put in your subs and GC scored 21 unanswered to end the game.

 

39-27 is not a comfortable lead in HS football and not a time to pull your starters. Neither is 46-27, and probably not 53-27 either. If Raceland was able to put up 34 points, they were keeping it close enough to where I wouldn't have pulled my starters until I knew it was safe, and that might have been 53-27 depending on the time remaining. I know your team was worn out, and you had to sub out because your players were tired, but even at that, a 12 or 19 point lead isn't safe until the numbers on the clock start getting pretty small.

 

Honest question: It was 34-27, then 46-27, then 53-27, then 60-27, right? Then Raceland tacked on a late TD to make it 60-34.

At what point should GC have pulled their starters?

A few Greenup County players did pull down a sign/banner last night in their excitement after the game. They were immediately called back by the coaches. They did not realize it was a sign in memory of a fallen Racleand teamate, to imply otherwise is untrue. The situation was dealt with after the game by Coach Copley. Apologies go out to the Baldridge family.

Some of you must have been watching a different game than I was last night because the game was not decided at the half like mentioned above. The score was 20-20 at the beginning of the second half. GC was up by only 2 scores with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Not alot against a QB like Farley. Under 8 minutes GC went up by three. Yes, Corey Lyle was left in the game at that time when it was discovered he was only 6 yards away from a school record. He broke free for a long touchdown and was then pulled from the game.

 

Some have asked why we didn't put in our 2, 3, or 4th string players...WHAT PLAYERS???? Greenup has fewer players on the roster than Raceland. When you subtract out the 24 or so that consistently play varsity and the ones who are injured or ineligible that only left 8 players. (Freshman) They were played, including our Freshman QB. Greenup does not have enough players for a full JV or Freshman team. We have to use 8th graders.

 

Raceland has an excellent Football program and I was impressed with their offensive line last night. They will have a great season.
